I hate to disobey a direct order from the fbodfather himself but I'm starting to believe that this is indeed the case. They have carefully worded scripts that they use at the auto shows and the spiel at the NAIAS (3:30) mentions ABL on the doors but not the dash... not cool.

who knows, maybe the light from the door panels make it somehow into the dash. You never know. "Keep the faith"

I don't care that much about ambient lighting. But it's good to see that they are making it a priority due to popular demand.

If they have it on the door thats enough. There is enough glow in the dash anyway.
Also, did you notice the shark fin was actually rather small .Today I saw a bmw with a fin so big I started laughing!! Then I panicked that that would be the size for the camaro!

I echo Fbod's statement of doing it right, or not doing it at all. If a non-enthusiast sees this, and thinks "Shoddy GM right there, gimmie my bailout back!" then we've just lost sales to the Mustang and Challenger or even the Genesis (god help us).
Just leave it off for now..and if it gets done right later on, go to your dealer and have it installed for a fee. No biggie. Or you can wait. It's not the end of the world guys (and gals). |

I don't care what any of you guys say If you take delivery of your car without the lighting on first sight of your car some little lights on the dash is not gonna bother you. And with the first drive those lights are not going to matter with the 426hp rumbling. I will not be angry at all if those little lights are not on the car. I don't care if the price stays the same because we are all getting one heck of a deal for a car this nice and this thought out.

IF there is a problem having it ready on time there's a simple solution that will make a lot of people happy.
1) Knock the 2LT/2SS price down just a little until it's added. 2) Offer the ambient as a dealer installed upgrade when it's ready. This would result in early buyers that wanted ABL paying a little more for it, as the dealer upgrade would surely be more than the factory discount so it's not a perfect but it's the closest thing there is, aside from shipping with ABL from day 1. |

To be honest, it doesn't mean much to me. I hang on every word fbodfather types. With that said, he hasn't said anything worthwhile on ABL other than "we're working on it" which doesn't really say much at all. What I want to know (but I'm sure we're never going to hear):
What's the current problem? Do they have a workable fix to the problem? Will the fix require modifications to the locations/look of the ABL? What's the odds of it getting done right by production? And there's different definitions of "right." Maybe Scott considers just on the doors to be right as long as those pieces look right? Or maybe he's saying they're going to do the dash and doors or nothing at all? Then why would they promise ABL to the world (in affect, through video) only on the doors and not dash as well? Did the product specialist simply forget that part of his script? And besides, what would this forum be if we didn't speculate on the unknown? |

I thought the whole thing was when you start the car the lights start out in the middle of the dash and travels outward across the dash along to the doors and then the dash fades out and the door ABL stay lit... maybe I am wrong but that was my understanding how they were supposed to work.

Honestly the main reason I ordered the 2SS is for the little small things to make it extra special, ABL is one of them.

Even if you don't care about ABL, I would think you'd want some money back for an unfinished product you paid for. Also, I would think you'd want your car value to increase by having ABL, which it will since all future models will have it as well. |

I'm really starting to feel bad for posting this info and causing Scott (and I'm sure a few others) so much grief. We've trusted GM to get this car right for the last 2-3 years. They didn't tell us every little detail along the way. They know how badly we want this car and how we want it done.
Look at how amazing this car is already. Do you really think if the ABL looked bad that they would keep it that way? Let's trust them for these last few weeks to figure out whatever it is they need to get ABL right. It's really disappointing to see all this GM-bashing after letting us in on the development of this car in more ways than they needed to. We kept the faith all this time, why not now?

Everyone settle down...settle down. We've got more than a month (40+ days) to go before the 1st prod car is made. There is still time to iron out issues or make changes. Also remember, be prepared to deal with the possibility that something about this car may indeed change. Ultimately, GM's goal is to put out as near perfect a product as they can and if issues arrise to where they may have to make a hard decision to change the offerings a bit, guess what...they will. They need to put out a quality car, not one that has options that half-way work and take the risk that the consumer base sees this car in a negative light. Maybe in the past they could take such risks but during these economic times, this is it. It's all on the line.
So relax and think positive. Look forward to what it is going to feel like cruising around in this fantastic machine. It's going to be OK. Just relax.

The ABL is one of the only things about the interior that I actually like.
I don't really like the Playstation-controller-esque center stack...and it actually almost pushed me away from the Camaro. I like the main gauge cluster...very retro...but that and the ABL are really the only interior features I like. I will be VERY disappointed if the ABL isn't available at launch and this is really one of the major reasons I haven't pre-ordered yet. Not having a convertible within the year brought my excitement down. I talk myself into going with the Coupe. No HUD...eh, I can live with it but I wish it was there. Now ABL is iffy (going by Scott's post...if it's not done right, it won't be done at all or it will be delayed until it is right).
