Stripe Question Help please

I bought my 2010 2SS/RS back in November. It is black. I got the white stripe package as part of the GM 1500 money. I have not had them installed yet due to the cold weather. From time to time I wonder if I should ask about having some painted on.

First, I wanted to add the MPD1 spoiler. So If I do the GM white stripe, the spoiler will have to be done in a vynil shops white stripe.

Second, what would it cost roughly to have the stripes painted on, but run down past the mail slot a bit, and done on the trunk and spoiler.

Third, what color would look super cool on my Black car? I have thought of white, red, orange, and blue. All these with some metal flake to make them pop some. Even thought ghost flames in the stripe for illusion.

Please give me some direction and feedback. Thanks in advance. Add photos if you like, or whatever.

Jared

Paint looks better than vinyl, costs a lot too to be done right. Get some estimates from local places and remember... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! A bad stripe job can ruin your whole car.

One pro of vinyl... You don't like it, peel it off!

White rally's look good black!

Mines in the shop now and it will be getting ones like the pace car edition painted on. When they are done I can upload pics but it might not be another week or two. But my vote is for painted ones.

Since i kinda jacked your post a little here are my thoughts. I would not use the GM stripes mostly because I tend to avoid stickers. If i were to do a black car I would use HOK PBC-30. It is a very golden orange color. You will love the way it shimmers in the sun. Wont look like anyone elses stripes or colors to me thats the most important part. Also you can make the stripes more appealing as the gm stripes taper to much in front for my tastes. Price wise, depends if you are going to clear the whole panel once the stripes are painted or just clear an 1/8 in or so past the strips. My guesstimate would be in the 4-800.00 range.

I'm glad you did. I saw another cyber grey a few months ago with silver rally stripes from the factory, and did not like it at all. Whenever I tell people about the color combo they are uneasy, then I show them pictures and they love it too.

I would definately recommend Eric at MPD1. I drove up there one afternoon and had a general idea of what I wanted. He taped it out and both liked the design. Then we talked about colors. I wanted silver but he recommended the color that I have now. He brought the paint out and held it against my car and I loved it. Saw another CGM with silver hockey sticks a few months ago and I didn't really like it. Very reasonable in price too, I got quoted all the way up to 2,500 and he did it for a fraction of the price. The few times I have been by the dealer everyone always comments on the stripes, and how much they like them.

I think a white or silver but I like classic style colors like that. Definately extend them beyond the hood and over the spoiler.

My paint/body guy who is excellent but you'll pay for it wants $1,500 to do stripes like mine. I got them done in vinyl for $450 instead. There are pros/cons to both paint and vinyl but a well done vinly job isn't as obvious as others. I ask people all the time if they they vinyl or paint on my car and it's a 50/50 correct answer. My vinyl is wrapped around the edges which helps look like paint.

I'll probably have mine painted one day but I wanted to be able to change colors and I spent the other $1k on other mods.

BTW: I would tell you to sell your GM stripes and get either custom vinyl or paint.

Will custom vinyl hold up? Reason I am asking, about 5 years ago I had some chrome vinyl flames put on my chevy truck hood and after a year they faded to a weird look, and I hated them. Since then U have been so scared to do vinyl anything.

I had mine painted thru my dealership, i got to sit down the with paintshop guy and discuss what would be done which proved beneficial. I got the hood/trunk stripes and hockey stripe done in gloss black. Mine was the second one they had done the hood/trunk stripes on but I was the first one they did hockey stripes to. They painted the trunk stripes over my spoiler rather than stopping at it. He added a pin stripe to my hockey to match the pin striping around the hood/trunk stripes as well. I also had them paint my ground effects gloss black to match. Overall I was very pleased with their work, but think I also got lucky as my dealership has a very good aoutobody and paintshop crew. They charged me $2500 for everything, $500/ground effects and then $1000/stripes.
