Bought the SS

Well after going back and forth on whether or not to sell the 04 Cobra, I made the move yesterday. Picked up a new 10 1SS manual, silver with silver rally stripes, 4 gauge package upgrade, gm perf exhaust, 20 wheels, and premium mats for $27k after the GM employee discount and other rebates.

Took 4 hours to get home after the purchase and I really like this car, it drives great, is comfortable, pretty quick especially in 1st and 2nd gears. I sure wish it had the power of the Cobra though.

Looking forward to beginning modifications.

Drive her around some more she will wake up after she gets some more miles on her. And headers and an intake will wake her up a lot too.

Headers/Tune/Exhaust make a big difference in the car. A few rear bushings, trailing arms, and a good set of tires and you'll be in the lower 12's at the track.

As a recommendation.....do a bunch of research on what you're going to buy before actually buying. Probably no different than in the Mustang world.

Oh.....and you need to post up some pics. No matter even if it's stock right now.

I'll try to post some pics of the silver on silver, the differance in color tones are minimal so I am not sure it will show up in a picture but I'll try. My goal was to have stripes but not "in your face stripes" Hopefully the rain stops at some point and I can grab the Camera

congrats! You'll have a ton of fun and hanging out here will surely help lighten your wallet. My advise is, before doing any performance mods that "may" void the warranty, drive the car awhile and take care of the problems that arise (if any) under warranty. That is what I am doing with the 2011 GT500 SVTPP I just picked up. But it is soooooo hard not to do a simple pulley swap and tune now for an easy 600rwhp.

Question,
Will Chevy void the warranty for a CAI, Programmer, Exhaust?

Cat-back exhaust, no prob. With headers...depends on the dealer.

CAI, mostly no prob. Depends on the dealer.

Programmer/Tune = will definitely VOID your power train warranty.

With a programmer such as a SCT can't you return it to stock prior to a dealer service visit?

Thats right... and if some reason you have a problem on the road after the tune.... DO NOT call Onstar!... They run a complete diagnostic of your car and send it to the dealer and it will show the tune.

Where are you in NC????

Great information here. I will be ordering a New Era CAI, and was thinking about the SCT programmer. So just to be sure here. If I contact Onstar and tell them I do not want the diagnostics, and I return the car to stock tune when I have service work done I will be ok?

StikSS I am in Manteo here

Hold on their Pardner....you better look a little deeper at posts on flashing your on board chip. I've hear they can tell if you flashed it and you lose your engine warranty. The jury is still out on that one from what i have read. The local dealer may not have the equipment to diagnose it but they send the code out to the mother ship which does from what I have heard....my2

Yep until GM asks the dealer to see how many times the ECM has been flashed then you are busted. Or if you don't care about karma and personal integrity. Two dealer service managers told me (maybe they are idiots)there is a flash counter and if I remember correctly, NUMBER3 posted here that there is a flash counter. If the warranty work is big $$, you can bet GM will tell the dealer to check the ECM.

Not sure about Onstar ratting you out. There are threads about returning the car back to stock tune, in the Tuning/Diagnostics section, that should answer all your questions regarding this.

GM is supposed to have a counter that lets them know how many times the ECU has been flashed. I don't know that that's true but wouldn't doubt it. So, theoretically, even if you put the stock tune back in the can still tell it's been tuned before.

Now...saying all of that it is just going to depend on what the issue is and I will say we still haven't seen/heard of anyone getting denied for headers and a tune.

My example, which is true, is this......after I had my headers and tune done I found out that my passenger rear valve cover is ever so slightly leaking oil. Come to find out there is a bulletin by GM about this being an issue. So, I asked my salesman if I would be denied that warranty since I had headers/tune. The answer was, No, tune as nothing to do with it.

Now, if I were burn a piston because the tune caused the fuel to be too lean and if I had put back in my stock tune they would probably come back and say....hey, this car as been tuned more that once and show no flash on our records....which means you tuned it and we aren't paying for you repair.

So....it all depends on what the issue is. I figued....WTH....the LS motors have been proven to be strong for the most part. I'm going to have fun with my car and gamble a little bit. No different than those gambling by driving around with only liability vs full coverage insurance.

BTW: If you do buy an SCT you should consider getting one from Jannetty since his will include a free custom tune and he is a big supporter of C5.

TY again for the information, I'll hold off on the tune for a bit. I'll go forward with the CAI as I can put the stock one back on for service. I wish I had a local Performance oriented Chevy dealer close, maybe they would install and provide warranty cover. I know many of the Ford Cobra/GT500 dealers did so.
