305 carb on 87 z28

are these easy to keep running smooth, i just picked up a 87 with a 4 bbl carb and it seems to take forever for the choke to kick off and when i finally did get to drive it home it had a bad hesitation off the line but then it pulled good after a sec. or 2. i am going to pull the plugs and look them over and spray some carb cleaner in it. i am hoping that will clean up the whole shot but has anyone else had this issue and solved it

thanks if you can help out
