That would be nice. GM's 5yr/100,000 isn't bad either. Maybe if GM changed theirs to 5yr/100k bumper to bumper? But your right they're going to have to do something to compete with the imports. Still not gonna change anything for me, still going after my Camaro

Yeah, I know. But I was just saying that if it weren't for hyunduh and the others I don't think the big 3 would be pushing up their warrantys to this extent. It's gonna be interesting to see what kind of warranty is around for the Camaro come 09.

I would love to hand down my SS to my boy...but, he's got another 14 years to go. So, don't think that's going to happen. Plus, all I see are tickets if he gets something with that much power.
But, yes. I'm planning on keeping it for a VERY long time too. |

This is the car to do it with IMO. Not for money, but because it's part of a new era in Muscle Car history, where efficiency, and quality*, meet Power.

Me and my boyfriend saw a Dodge commercial tonight and it said on the commercial where they are offering the Lifetime Powertrain warranty! We were impressed, none the less, but since we've had so much trouble out of his 2005 Dodge dually, we thought it would have been more handy for us to have had this warranty in 2005 when he got the truck

I know we have some Dodge people on the board, and I'm usually decently fair about other makers....but I LOL when I put "Dodge" and "reliability" in the same thought string.
Unless they have made monstrous improvements lately, I don't see how they're gonna stay in the green, especially when it domes to transmissions...IMO Dodge's weak link. Ford has crap electronics, Chevy has weak interiors/rear ends, Dodge has crap trannies/poor quality mechanics. Just how I view the big-3. It's completely biased, and barely based on fact. /disclaimer.

I read your disclaimer, but I have to say...I've got a 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan. And if it wasn't for the rust all over, it'd ride and look like a brand new Van...

With all the Dakotas I've had, I've never had a problem with them . . . though till now, I've never held onto one long enough to test the theory on the bad transmissions.

This would be awesome to have on GM products. The key here to Chrysler being able to offer this is that the 'lifetime' warranty is non transferrable. Most people who can afford to buy a brand new car put themselves in a position to buy another brand new car within 5-7 years, if not sooner. It's the 2nd and 3rd owners that would benefit from this and the warranty will not apply to them.
The small population of new vehicles that are retained by their original owners for 10+ years would most likely be well maintained with low mileage. These vehicles would probably never require an engine, transmission or differential. With all that said, it still would be pretty cool to have on GM products. Imagine blowing up the motor in your 2009 Camaro in the year 2030 and bringing it back to the dealership for a warranty replacement!!! |

That would be great, but I'm sure they'd have some kind of fine microscopic print to cover just that. But it would be nice if GM jumped on board too. So let's see the break down here: Chrysler now has Lifetime Powertrain warranty, GM still up there with 5yr/100k, Ford (snicker) 6yr/60k.Now like I mentioned before . . . or I think I did if GM didn't want to go the Lifetime PT, then boost theirs to a 10?yr/100k bumper to bumper. This is going to be interesting to see what Ford comes up with and GM'll be bound to top it. We could actually wind up making out like bandits by the time 09 gets here. With all that said, it still would be pretty cool to have on GM products. Imagine blowing up the motor in your 2009 Camaro in the year 2030 and bringing it back to the dealership for a warranty replacement!!![/QUOTE] |

Hehe merf, have had my 04 ram for awhile and no problems as yet (just changed plugs yesterday infact). My dad owned a 96 ram that ran for over 250k before my brother traded it in for an 06. my dad baught his 03 (hemi) and has had a few problems but they all arose because it sat in a garage for a year (deployment to bagdad). My brothers 06 is like mine, no problem. Yes there are a few issues surrounding them but not enough to warrant not buying a dodge.
Like pretty much all cars out there (YES EVEN IMPORTS) if you take care of them they last. Back on topic, Im glad domestic brands are steping up to the plate with the warranties, especially after these new introductions of 5+ year warranties. Its finaly good to have a warranty that lasts longer than the average loan on a vehicle.

Every person I know who bought a durango from a dealer (about 14) has had their transmission go out on them before 30k miles. They driving style ranges from old folks to brand new licensed drivers. I'm glad their stepping up and saying, "we know our product sucks, but we'll fix it anytime anywhere." That puts confidence into the buyers. I might buy one as a beater and save my camaro for special occasions.

where i work really tests a truck to its limits, i have a 2000 chev silverado and its almost dead. the average life span of a chev in the oilfield in canada is 4-6 years so im not doing so bad. but the average life span of a dodge is 2-3, we have 2006 doge rams that are going through "majors" which means the entire powertrain, suspension, etc. has to be replaced.

lifetime powertrain warranty!
I was watching TV last night and saw a chrysler commercial. and it said that they not only produced the first muscle car, but they are offering a lifetime powertrain warranty! thats insane, for people who dont care about modding they're car (and there are a lot of em out there). I wonder what the catch is!:(

This was discussed already here
thread Oh and the catch is that you have to have the drive train inspected every 5 years and it only applies to the buyer of a new car (non transferable with used vehicles)

Well I haven't had any problems yet on my 04 Jeep. Maybe the transmissions are different in the Jeeps vs Dodge.
