I am more interested in having my painter do a number on them. But sorta need to know how to mask them so the ambient lights still work.

Leave it to you guys to answer a question by pimping your stuff. You guys do nice work but, come on man, you guys are constantly spamming threads with your stuff.

Is anybody else annoyed by this???

As for the OP, yes it's been done with great results. The key is prepping the panel. You don't really need to paint the panel either. You could wrap the panel in vinyl or some type of fabric. You have many options. Do a search and you'll see all sorts of stuff pop up.

All I want to do is have my dash inserts and door panels painted IOM. Really wanted the IOM interior package, but could not live with all that Orange leather.

They are a paid sponsor. It is well within their rights. It is funny to me that we have tons of threads about this topic (painted door trim, custom panels etc...) and many other things like doing ABL across the dash etc. Yet we still get new threads started asking the same old questions, and we end up with the inevitable Why? because people don't search, or read through some threads first before asking questions. So who should you be annoyed with? A paid sponsor answering questions with pictures of their products? Or the people who are posting threads with questions already answered?

You can buy the IOM factory panels. There are several sponsors in here who can get them for you.

Noboby gets it! All I want to know is how the door panel is masked, so that the ambient light stills work. I am well aware that I can buy them. I have a very compitent painter and I don't want to spend several hundred $$$ on buying new panels.

I did do some searching and could not find what I was looking for. I generally try to help people on this site if they have a question. Sorry for this, but I don't need a lecture.

You original post did not suggest that.. but later you clarify... sorry about that.

If you look along the top of the panels you will see an area that is clear, where there is not paint. Have them mask along that same line and you should be good. I wish we could get clear panels so they can be painted on the inside like the factory. Or at least be able to strip the paint off the inside, and re paint. Ask you painter if they can do that. If they have to sand the paint they may be able to polish the acrylic back to a crystal clear again and paint hte back side for a more finished look.

This was not meant to be a lecture to you, just a response to a question asked about sponsors.

As a paid sponsor, it's within their rights to advertise their products but, every time I've seen a thread on this subject (and as you've pointed out, there's A LOT) these guys are constantly pimping their stuff with multiple pictures and they offer no real answer to the question asked. OP didn't ask where he could buy door panels. He wanted to know about the process of having it done. Instead we get half the thread taken up with pictures of their product. Like I said, I'm not knocking their product. Their constant advertising annoys the shit out of me though. I don't care if they're a paid sponsor or not. There's a place for pimping your stuff and unless somebody asks, "hey where can I get some carbon fiber door panels?", then this ain't it.

With that being said, I'm over it and onto the next thing. Question has been asked and answered. Good luck with your door panel modding.

In this you are correct, I miss-read the Original post the first time I read it, I too thought he was asking where to get them, as I mentioned earlier. I apologize for that.

mercuryman96, I just checked out your build thread! Very nice!!

The constant forum hocking of vendor products here is quite simply out of control. I see nothing wrong with saying, "We have an option for you" and then link down to their sale thread, but posting a catalog in a thread in a technical forum is something I've only ever seen done here. This is normally frowned upon.

I've commented on this previously. To the OP, you can either paint, or have them covered in vinyl.

To answer your question about the door panels we paint them quite a bit.. Our shop does the paint on the firebreathers along with other custom camaros... The key to doing the panels is taking the time to take them apart. They are heat staked in but if you use a cookie pad you can sand off the area that is staked then drill a small pilot hole and use a small screw to reinstall them. Be careful not to use too long of a screw. We tape the line on the front side of the panel where the light tube runs then prep the front side for paint. We use 1/4 fine line tape to cover the area where the tube runs. The way the panel sits in the door you really can't see it unless you really look for it once installed in the car. Once it's painted use caution when removing the tape because the factory coating leaves alot to be desired and if you remove the tape too fast you can rip the coating and may have to touch it up before you reinstall them.

I have added red L.E.D. lighting under the dashboard and in the dome light in order to actually see.
I plan on sueding out the trunk area and adding lights to it around my two 12 inch woofers in the trunk
