Ya know, for a 4 door sporty car, you could do a lot worse. What does Chevy have to compete with that? You have to move into a Caddy and pony up $65K to beat it if you want a similar GM vehicle. It is what it is......

I didn't think it could look anymore like an Evo, but Dodge never fails to deliver.

465 Horsrpower?! OMG

Chicago auto show: 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 packs more power
By GREG MIGLIORE on 2/09/2011

With the car world still buzzing about the Super Bowl commercial starring Eminem, Chrysler unveiled a car in Chicago with real arrogance--the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8.

With apologies to the Chrysler 200, the Dodge delivers an exceptionally mean version of its flagship sedan to the tune of 465 hp from an even larger Hemi V8. That mill grows from 6.1 liters to 6.4 liters and now pumps out 465 lb-ft of torque.

The SRT8 arrives this fall as a 2012 model and will be priced slightly higher than the 2010 car. There also are significant changes to the body, which gets a snarkier grille with blacked-out parts; the Dodge crosshair fades a bit, and this is a hint of things to come for the brand. The car rides on gaudy 20-inch wheels, and the hood scoop is replaced up front by more of a domed setup. The inside is marked by heavily bolstered seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and electronic goodies that track 0-to-60-mph times and lateral g-forces in the center touch screen.

The five-speed automatic is carryover, but for the first time, an SRT car will get paddle shifters. There's an active suspension with auto and sport settings and an active exhaust feature that helps fuel economy. This car can also drop down from eight cylinders to four cylinders when needed to conserve fuel. The city EPA figures are expected to improve by 15 percent and the highway figures by 26 percent.

"The car has the ability to change personality on the fly," Dodge CEO and Chrysler design boss Ralph Gilles told AutoWeek.

The Charger SRT8 joins the Challenger SRT8 in the Dodge's hot-rod stable. Both cars have the same Hemi, which measures 392 cubic inches.

Dodge will make as many copies of the car as it can sell, and it took care to address previous concerns over the harshness some SRT models were tagged with. Top speed is 175 mph.

Gilles called his latest Dodge demon a car he could drive across the country in, and he left open the possibility of a manual transmission entering the fray.

"We're listening to our customers very closely," he said

It needs more power because it is a pig as far as weight goes.

And what car isn't 'overweight' these days? Hell my T/A pushes 3700lbs race weight. And it's a 2000. Blame NHTSA if you want. A 2.5 Ton Sedan is par these days, especially a beefy RWD/AWD one. Watch GM release the full specs on the Caprice PPV and then tell me that 'all full size Front engine, rear wheel drive sedans are pigs'. It's a bruiser cruiser. It's a Mopar. They were never light.

Not to mention having seen the new '12 body in person and the buildup of them in R/T and SRT form; I'd say that's one slick looking sedan.

Just put a TVS on top already, Mopar? Or are they trying to achieve it on 'all motor'?

To be fair, it is a 4 door "family car", so of course it's going to weigh a lot. I'm glad my wife decided not to wait and went ahead and got the '10 SRT8. I don't like paddle shifters, for one. The current ones have that capability on the actual shifter. Also, the thing just looks to ricey for my taste, and I don't think the extra 40 horses are worth the difference in appearance. I sent her a link to the article with the pics, I'm waiting to see what she thinks, but I'm pretty sure I know what she'll say.

Too bad Chevy doesn't have a 4-door car to compete. But really looks like the ZL1 Camaro will smoke both the charger and challenger. But to be honest, I think the king engine fits well in the Cadillac CTS-V Sedan. There probably isn't that huge of a market for a 550HP Impala anyway

I hope Chevy re-designs some of its cars. But then again, I guess not everybody like's Dodge's aggressive looks. I tend not to like the standard Chevy bubbly look. If I buy another GM it'll either be GMC or Cadillac because of the lackluster current Chevy lineup.

4 door cars can be muscle cars and sporty, just not this one with the charger nameplate.

Now if it was called the Fury...

Because of the name? Really? Do you think the 80s Charger with a 4 cylinder and FWD was better because it had 2 doors???? This is the fast, quickest, best handling, best braking, most comfortable charger EVER from the factory! IMHO, a better use of the name than what Chevy did with Impala and Malibu........

Anyway, love it, love all the features, and the aggressive look. Should be a serious homerun!
