There are already other threads on this, but what the heck, This is the Camaro I am looking forward to.

The Z28 does not need a ton more HP. Chevy should do this:
  • 450 HP at the crank would be fine
  • Offer a V6 version too
  • Add tighter bushings, beefier adjustable sways and links
  • Lighten it up where possible, but don't go crazy, keep the costs down
  • Use lightweight 19" wheels and tires, same size all around
  • Add ZL-1 brakes and front brake scoop
  • Offer real cloth sport seats
  • Start with the 1SS/1LT level, offer only 1SS/LT options
  • Add some unique Z28 graphics, don't go for subtle
  • Add some race level Z28 parts, work with existing vendors, but offer factory engineering support
  • Keep the V8 starting price right around a loaded 2SS/RS, $37,500.
  • Do not make production limited
  • Start a race series where Mustangs, Camaros, Hyundais, and Challengers can face off
  • Offer the race to RWD V6 Turbo (limited boost) and V8s

We can all have fun!

I am going to use my GM card exclusively so I am ready when the time comes.

At the same time I am going to mod and enjoy my SS now and not worry about the future.

The 1st gen Z28 were not cheap, infact a 69 Z/28 was the most expensive version of the camaro so IMO A C5 Z/28 would be:

A N.A. track monster.

1.Start with the ZL1 but Use the LS7 not the LSA that would save about 100lbs.
2.Keep the Magnetic Shocks
3.Carbon Ceramic disc brakes from the Zr1 (The 69 Z/28 used the vette brakes)
4.No darn heated power seats!!! Use light wieght Sparco Racing seats (Cuts about 90+ lbs)
5. Carbon Fiber Roof / Hood (lower center of gravity and less weight)
6. Smooth Underbody for less drag
7. 3.92 gears

That would probaly Cost $60k though, But it would be worth it.

Z28 should be built race inspired and for those who don't need all of the luxuries. With two totally different packages available.

Z28/RS:

Exterior
Gets ZL1 front bumper, rear spoiler optional with choices of SLP ZL & the High Wing, RS Headlights & tailights standard, Black chrome 20" SS aluminum wheels, single hood & deck lid stripe standard, All colors except Imperial Blue, and Silver available. Available in Aqua Blue Metallic & Synergy Green.

Interior

Black cloth only interior w/ color matching stitching, Leather steering wheel, armrests, and console lid all standard with color matching stitching as well. ZL1 door trim panels, and instrument cluster bezel standard. Gauge pack standard.

Powertrain

538HP LS7 engine available with either Automatic or 6 speed.

Z28 "Track Package"

Exterior

ZL1 Bumper w/ Race Splitter & fog light delete, ZL1 Hood optional, Black heritage Grille Standard, Standard halogen headlights. Black tail light trim and roof ditch molding. Rear spoiler delete, 19 inch matte black aluminum wheels standard, Hockey stripes standard. Only available in White, Inferno Orange, Red, Silver, Cyber Gray, and Black .

Interior
1LS interior trim package. manual seats, windows and locks. Interior color matching cloth door trim panels, Gauge package, and HUD not available. Hurst Manual shifter standard.

Powertrain

538HP LS7 w/ 6 speed manual only

302 Z car

I heard that GM did build a 302 4th gen for testing. Not too sure what components that were used.

I wondered if it was real until I saw a 4th gen in a private collection that was badged as a 302, so assumed that this was perhaps one of the test cars. I don't remember much details, but it had Recaro seats, roll bars and had a Next Generation Year One label across the top of the windshield. I attached the only pics that I shot of it.

Maybe one of the GM people will confirm if it is real.

To be realistic I think the Z/28 will have to compete with the Boss with this:

- Dry sump LS3. tuned
- Bigger radiator and ZL1 diff cooling
- ZL1 brakes front and rear cooling
- ZL1 drivetrain
- ZL1 Short shifter
- Manual seats
- Dual mode exhaust
- Sway bars
- MR shocks
- Higher rate springs
- More down force over the ZL1
- HUD
- Rear seat deleate
- Rear gear options
- Painted Carbon fiber roof, trunk and hood
- Heat extracted hood
- Fog light deleate w/standard headlights no HID's
- Light weight wheels with damn good tires

Don't get your hopes up guys... Z28 would just be one more model to cannibalize sales. Perhaps a COPO style car- made to order, but I just don't see LS, LT, SS, ZL-1 & Z28 all sharing the 5th-gen stage at the same time...

The thing is that they may wait until the 6th gen to bring the Z28 moniker back into the equation and going off what Ford has done, the retro '60s based design will gradually be killed off so we won't get a modern Z28 in one of the nicest body styles ever used for the Camaro :(. Then there's the Challenger being that the 1st gen was a 5 year one design wounder, they might have to keep that body style or kill off the Challenger model all together . This why I choose to enjoy today's Camaro and not worry about tomorrow's.

IMO a BOSS KILLER would be nice, alittle more NA power, lighter car, hardtop only, better sunspion,.
Z/28 ONLY paint sceme (Maybe 6 color option from 1st GEN CHART)...

How does introducing a Z/28 "cannibalize" sales?

Doesn't having more options and choices mean more people will be apt to find something that fits their wants and desires, in turn boosting sales?

I don't get that excuse at all...

Don't forget the Corvette. Base, Grand Sport, Z06, ZR1. Thats not including the different trim levels in each of those different models too with the convertable options in the mix. It depends on what you want and what you can afford.
