oh dear, struts

I just realized that they, GM, put the phear back in mcpherson. Ok, packaging restraints . . . the reason ride engineers went back to an SLA front with the 4th gen was handeling performance.

Not a lot of tuning options with the strut. I did not say none, just not much. I assume the decision was platform driven no doubt.

The rear is much improved with an SLA, but you don't see a macfearson on a vette.

Wondering if there is a simple engineering reason why they went with struts? Cost, packaging, new and improved strut design.

Good question, I would have liked to see SLA & coilovers, but they're getting some good numbers with the strut setup...Maybe our Pedders friends can shed some light on 'why'.

Pedders makes fully adjustable/tunable struts for the Camaro.

An SLA is preferable for performance applications. Most times when the suspension is compressed, there is a given amount change that occurs to the camber angle, which in some cases can have a negative effect on vehicle handling.

I am familiar with some of the tunable struts that are out there, just wondering what aftermarket designs for our vehicle will be available that will compensate for some of the short comings that a strut can have.

pedders adjustables...

camber plate for pedders XA extremes...Looks like a nice compromise.

And pillow ball bearings...

They had a Christmas sale with 18 pre-orders I hear (including me) Should be getting feedback in a few months on this setup.

XA's all 4 corners is all I ordered so far. There's some good discussion in this area from pedders about what will be available, including bushings. Do a search for 'pedders' or just roam thru the Wheel / Tires / Suspension / Brakes Talk area for pedders posts.

And if it is...it is NOT quality and it will NOT perform. You get what you pay for.

My GTO is Pedderized. The camber plate is the clincher for me. Nice design.
Cheap and reliable just don't fit well in the same sentence.

na . . . I just have not done my research on the Camaro Pedders applications. A bit lay-z.

Those springs and that whole strut setup just don't look as beefy as the 4th Gen setup, especially for a car that is 400 lbs heavier and also it looks like just changing the shock ala the 4th Gen will also be out of the question.

I LOVE my Single Adjustable Koni's (4th Gen Front and 3rd Gen rear) for their performance and Value ~$850 from Sam Strano...

I do realize we have a MUCH better setup in the rear and will have to just lay down the dough to play with the big dogs...

Any word on Motron or Penske setups for the 5th Gen's? (Or are those more of a 100% custom design where YOU make them fit)
