Ok, dont hate me, but tough choice!

Ok, there are TONS of 07-08 gt500s with less than 10k miles selling for 33-35k. I currently have a 1ss/rs on order, so i will be spending around the same for either car. now i absolutely love the new camaro, but the gt500 has always been a dream. while the camaro is a brand new model, it will still be mass produced, and the shelby will always be a shelby while i feel the camaro will soon be old news just like the new mustangs. HALP!

Edit: I know this is a camaro site, but i hope you guys can leave the bias out of this.

To tell you the truth, all bias aside, I don't see anyone paying as much for a 1SS as for a GT 500. Even If you get all the options.
So I don't see how you would spend the same amount on each one.
Unless you plan on modding the Camaro as soon as you get it, but I would consider those expenses apart from the total price.

In the end, you have to make a decision based on which car you feel meets your wants/desire more than the other. Considering that you don't even have the option of driving a SS Camaro yet, I think it would be impossible to make an educated decision between the two.

For some, just that fact that the car is manufactured by Ford is enough to disqualify it from consideration. To others, the opposite is true. Is there an immediate need to make a decision on your part? If not, why not wait until the Camaro hits the showroom and, if they let you, drive one and get a feel for it. Then go drive a GT500, again, if they let you. Then you can make a decision from an informed position. The low mile, GT500's are going to be out there for some time, so don't think that if you don't act immediately you will miss your opportunity to buy one.

On a related note, here is a video that does a decent job of mixing the heritage of the classic Shelby and the new version:

I love mustangs, have had quite a few of them. Get the camaro, the name shelby doesnt mean that much anymore. He has whored himself out to ford and z max. I would have rather they just kept it named a cobra, I guess just putting the word "shelby" on it makes it something special?

For me personally I would rather have the brand new car for the same money. At the end of the day though, you should buy the car that you want.

Seriously, a lot of them are low miles and hardly driven. A lot of people initially went out and bought these cars thinking they would be produced for two years only and in low numbers. Now that they have realized that the GT500 will be carried on through 2010, at least, many of them are selling. That and the current economic issues in the country are forcing some to divest themselves of their toys. Unfortunate for them, a blessing for those who are looking to get into one.

Although I drive a Mustang, I am a fan of both. However, if it was between a 1SS and a GT500, I'd probably go with the GT500.

Although the Camaro does have nicer features available, the 1SS isn't going to have many of them. I believe you're still looking at cloth seats in the 1SS. The GT500 will have leather seats (more comfortable ones than the GT) and will have similar interior upgrades as a loaded GT. Perhaps you'll find a nav built in if you are lucky. If you were thinking about a 2SS or GT500, I'd say personal preference, but since we're talking about the 1SS here I say GT500. However, it sounds like you're willing to spend 33-35k for the GT500, so why not get the 2SS instead of the 1?

In terms of speed, the GT500 will probably have an edge over the SS, but the gap will be small enough to make it a driver's race. The SS will certainly handle better though, and will get significantly better (+4 mpg or so) gas mileage to boot.

I wouldn't mind having a GT500...but what's the insurance on a 500 hp car?

Honestly, even with my hatred of ford, I'd probably take the GT500.

The Camaro because it will be brand new, you know exactly what happens with it, how it's driven from the start, etc. Also I'm not a fan of superchargers.

I wouldn't gice up the "First of a new Gen" tag for a car that for the most part looks like the rest of the Mustangs. JMO

Also consider the warranty will be ending soon on the 500 unless you spend more money and get it extended. Your better off comparing the 2SS, I dont think your gonna find too many 500's for the same price as the 1SS.
