The thermostat controls when your coolant is flowing into the engine. It blocks the coolant from the engine until it reaches a certain temperature, then it opens up to let coolant in. This lets your engine warm up faster and keeps your engine running at the temperature you want. Same as a house thermostat. I run a 160deg in mine. Alot of guys debate rather to run a colder one or not. Ive always ran them in my cars with no problems and my tuner recommended it so i put one in. Theres a few debate threads about them on the forum

Thanks, I think all SS Camaros should come with them like that from the factory rather than the 1969 307 looking bowtie.

Well the s/c package i ordered didnt come with the out of the box tuner so I'm getting it towed over to newtech for a tune. Also need to drop off the rotofab upgrade intake kit and that will be here tomorrow. Providing everything goes as planned should be able to pick up the car wednesday night.
Also ordered the rear cradle bushings set (street version) from BMR, those should be here wednesday. |

I have been looking at those, thinking of going with the next level of stiffness. I would love to get the pfadts, just too pricey. Who's installing them for you? I'm wondering if my exhaust will come apart easily so I don't need to cut it up. BTW, you will need those for the auto-x event in two weeks. Stay tuned while I get more info, it's a two day event in Marina just south down 1 for you. I'm shooting for the Sunday with a prayer for both days.

Yes, it's next to the airport. The surface is nice and flat, it will tear the edges of the tires up a bit if you are aggressive. I have run several events and I'm trying to wear out my original tires so I can drive to the Fest on new rubber, I don't think I'm going to be able to do it. I'm looking for a set of stock takeoffs at a decent price if you hear of anything.

I might do that, gunna throw on the new tires and rims on saturday but would you recommend using my stock tires for the autox events?

I think your stock tires would be fine for your first time, they do slide a bit and can't compare them to anything since that's all I have tried. I fill mine up to 40psi for the events to prevent them from folding over the rim. I would love to place a video camera under your car so we can see how much the new budging bought you. You can see the stock cradle bushings moving all over the place in my YouTube videos.

ya i took a look at some of yours, should be able to put the sways and trailing arms on this weekend. Since I'm doing bushings kit, should i just go ahead and get the end links as well, both front and rear or should i be good with rear for now?

I'm not too happy with my front end links, I need to try them one more time. You should be cool with the stock fronts unless you can get a good recommendation from someone.

The en links are really easy as is the the rear sway bar. The front sway is a pain to get out and in. Remember how you got it out so you can stick the new one back in the same way, it like one of those puzzles you get at Borders.

picked up my car today from newtech. currently im pushing 561hp,515tq. the car sounds like a beast. its impossible for me to keep it quiet....its pretty damm loud even at a stop light. I have to figure out some way to keep the sound down cause it will probably get me pulled over. Any ideas? maybe wrap my exhaust pipes or anything to lessen the drone? havent really stepped on it yet because its wet; got to 4k rpms in second and i lost traction....with traction control on! I'll be going down a couple pulley sizes and hopefully pull to 600hp. Nick suggested I go with Meth Injection and could easily pull above 650hp....not sure i want that at this point! I'm gunna try and get a couple vids this thursday if it dries up a bit!

NICE numbers!!
As far as exhaust, what are you running? I have LT's and the Magnaflow Street 2.5" and its barely louder than stock at idle, but at WOT it screams

Awesome dude, great numbers! Traction control is really pointless when trying to open it up with those numbers. It will steal alot of your power and can get a little funky cutting stuff off to try to find traction. Now your going to need some rubber for all that power
![]() Nicks a big fan of Meth, he talked me into it and im pretty happy he did. The car pulls consistent everytime now, no heatsoak. Not alot of trouble to deal with. I buy a $33 5 gallon drum of meth and add a little to the car every few weeks depending on how hard im driving. It took me about 7 months to go through that 5 gallon drum. You got a pic of the dyno, would love to check it out, your rides a beast!

Oh also for the loud exhaust, I had to put the magnaflow street catback on like jeanus is running to quiet it down. Im pretty happy with it so far. Pretty quiet until you get on it. Its hard to keep the car quiet with longtubes on there. My mbrp was pretty loud.

I have 1 7/8" LT from JBA, catted midpipes, and 3" competition exhaust. I'm seriously going to consider the magnaflow setup because it sounds like open headers right now, especially with that cam. Gotta hear the magnaflow setup first though. I have an H-Pipe; what do you think about putting an xpipe? will it get rid of the drone? Last edited by pyr0b0y; 03-02-2011 at 11:07 AM. |
