around how much would it cost , would it be cheaper to just upgrade to a vert? I was told it can be done for 5k? Also , has anyone done the TTOPS I saw it on here a while back and thought it was really cool

Just trade it in and get the real deal. A convertible is a lot more than coupe without the roof. There have been some posts on this forum of aftermarket convertibles, they looked like hack jobs to me, and were expensive to say the least.

There are some custom shops in California that can "convertiblize" cars. But I don't think they compete with manufacturer pricing - they just do it on automobiles that have no convertible option. And I *really* doubt that the structual rigidity of the conversions matches an engineered convertible.

Back in the 1980s, when convertibles were just beginning to be re-introduced, the manufacturers would establish contracts with these 3rd party builders. Ship them coupes and let the vendors do the conversion. It was too small a market to make them directly at the factory.

There's a reason Chevy added 250 Lbs to brace the body before removing the top. Cutting the top off a coupe would be a big disappointment in the end IMO.

I contacted that place in Cali that was featured on this sight a year or so ago... at the time, itbwas $15,000 if I recall right, to get it done. I was seriously considering it until I heard that price. Dunno if they came down any or not, but I really think your better off with the real deal.

The value of a coupe modified to a convertible is LESS than the value of a coupe (esp since there is now a factory vert). You also lose the warranty and get creaks and rattles.

You would lose less by simply trading in for a vert.

This reminds me of the "how much to switch my A6 to an M6?" threads

Simple, drive to dealer, order new car with options you WANT and trade! It will "cost" you the negative equity in your car plus the price increase of the new car. Much cheaper than switching one.
