The thread title is way misleading. Isn't the Flowmaster American Thunder system the one with those big mufflers on it? I'm sure all the smaller muffler sysdtems will fit just fine.

Here's your picks...
these are relatively SMALL mufflers, the problem comes in with the rear "V" shaped brace coming from the side of the car to the rear center, and I assume the lower center piece is also specific to the Vert for the top mechanics... the cross brace hits the pipes, and the muffler hits the center piece... More picks in the next post

That rear cross brace hits the 3" piping! not even the muffler... the muffler has an entirely different issue in itself- its close, but still rubs the cross braces, however- the pipes are definitely a "NO GO" with the brace... the muffler itself might be OK (minus a lot of rattle from rubbing that center piece) but theres no way the pipes will clear- trust me; I've got a lot of cuts, bruises and sore hands/arms/shoulders to prove it!!!

My bad i thought you meant it was hitting the mufflers themselves. Looks like I could get them work, but it will require me to bust out my sawzall and welder. I'll post up pics when i get my car. I ordered the full XSpower longtubes and full 3" and will post up pics when i get mine on.

Those are- not sure from the pic if theyre GFX or non-GFX, but yes-
Word for word from my instruction packet; :STSYEM #817487, 2010-2011 CAMARO SS, 6.2L - V8 Engine, **With factory ground effects package** I know my original pics show NO GFX, but they're being installed as we speak, so I bought the kit for the GFX, the only difference is the rear diffuser, which as you can see, is not an issue at this point (it just lines up differently with the tips)

to me, and my co-installer (who currently works for BMW and has previously worked for Cadillac- service dept)- it ain't gonna work! Unless you got a sick deal, (like-free) I'd wait for the proper vert fit set! I didn;t post this to piss people off, I did it so ppl like me don;t spend a lot of $$$ for nothing! The co. I ordered from will take them back, but I'm gonna lose roughly $50 in shipping, and 4 hours of labor for nothing... just trying to save others the hassle. I hope you have better luck than I did!

Honestly it looks like you could just get some longer bolts for the braces and runn1"-1.5" spacers on them to clear the pipes. It will probably be about a month or two at the earliest before a muffler company can mock up a cat back on a vert and start producing perfect fit systems.

Drago, I for one appreciate the post and am sorry for all the trouble. I would assume that there are a lot of folks here, (like me), that dont have aftermarket exhaust parts layin around or the capability to fabricate modifications for the install.

That stinks!
But that also had to be expected, since the body style is new. The lack of functioning A and B pillars adding ridgitiy to the body integrity meant that the underside geometry was going to have to be reconfigured to make up for this by adding extra meat to the under carriage to make up for that upper loss. |

This was the #1 on my list of major mods... but I'd rather have it done with warranty from the factory (supplier) than rigging something myself... spent too much on this car to have something go wrong at my fault!!!! Even the pipes themselves needed additional bending.... I'll give Flowmaster a month or so- they;ll get it done! Good luck on yours, post em' when you get em!

But I did TRY to do my research... I have numerous threads on here inquiring about vert/coupe exhaust compatability... I just couldn;t get a direct answer. I did find a good company that offered me a full refund if it didn;t work, so I figured I'd try it. Up to that point I had a GM Emplyee varify the coupe/vert exhaust was the same, however couldn't get anything concrete from the exhaust co's. Live and learn. At least more will know now, and I tried...

I think some sort of fabbed and bent or braketed brace could be made up.
Also, maybe 2.5" exhaust would make it a bit easier. Damn that sucks. DAMN that sucks. |
