I think the smog check is every 5 or 6 years. But have never heard of having to get a visual inspection every year. Glad I live in CA, because if I had to get my car inspected every year that would suck.

Where we, "barely see peoples?" Sounds like you live in the boonies. I have blacked out tail lights and live in Charlotte, heard of it?

CA has a six year exemption on NEW cars getting smogged. After that, you have to get smogged every two years.

There is no safety inspection in CA. You CAN get pulled over for too dark of tail lights or too dark of tint or whatever but you won't fail smog over that.

What will fail smog is ANY visible modification to the engine. Doesn't matter what it is or what it does, ANYTHING will fail your car

Riddikulus5Gen: If you are buying your Camaro out of state, I don't know how this applies to you. Last I read (on this forum I think) Camaros are 50 state legal so you shouldn't have problems but you might want to double check.

I used to live in Utah and we had to do Safety/Smog check every year for older cars and every other year for newer ones. The safety check could fail you for tint/headlights/etc. but the smog was simple. Just check to see what is actually coming out of the tailpipe and call it a day. They don't care about mods in Utah (for the most part) as long as the car is still clean so it was easy. And for the really new cars, they just read the computer and if the computer give a green, then you're golden.

Anyone have good tips on a tint-friendly inspector around Charlotte? My guy suddenly won't do it now.

Inspection in RI is every two years and exactly how much work they do is dependant on how much work they wanna do and how much money they want out of you.
Emissions, tires and breaks are the norm and newer cars are less likely to have their wheels pulled off for the breaks to checked.
I just had my car inspected and if I didn't tell them it was being traded in when my camaro arrives the front tires wouldn't have passed.
Luckily my dad does business there so they threw the sticker on and away I went.

I watched this idiot cruise by the bays, with the clutch in, and purposely revved to get the attention of the other mechs in the shop. These people's excuse was "I'm sorry sir, we don't get many of these cars in here so he got excited." I was like "really dude!?" I'm not taking my car back there again.

On top of that, this is how GAY north carolina is.....I have my vinyl, static cling blackouts on my taillights, side markers, reverse, and front turn signal lenses from camarodecalstore.com, which are AWESOME! Thanks again Reggie! The people at Family Tire made me take them off b/c if I get pulled over and the cop doesn't like the fact that I have them on my car, he'll ask where I got it inspected and then Family Tire will get fined.....AGAIN! Apparently, they have already had one incident where they let something slide. I've driven past many cops and haven't been pulled over. I even mentioned to these mf'ers that they just peel right off.....and still they made me take them off. Nonetheless, I put them back on!! This just pissed me off this weekend and it's one more reason why I can't wait to leave this state!
They inspect your car there? Geez, in AZ, we only have emission tests after 5 years old and then only in a few areas. None of that other nonsense

We have State inspection stations at DMV here and it doesn't cost anything less shady stuff going on, but they can get strict as well. They made me take a tiny sticker off of the corner of my tag that my kid put there and they were going to fail my GMC Jimmy back in '96 because the factory glass looked like it was too tinted for them. WTF? Luckily a senior guy heard me get cranked up and overruled the other guy. Talk about screwed-- how in the hell do you get a lighter tinted window than from the factory? So I've been there trust me.
In reference to the gas yeah they are probably going to tell you to take a hike.lol But since you are USMC they better do it nicely. I know how you guys get. HA HA my Dad was Kilo 3/1 '68-'69
You Eastern guys sound like you live in China, not America.

I disagree that it is the state, The issue lies with Family tire. My mechanic does my inspection. I don't use the chain shops for anything. Give NC a pass on this one please.

lol looks like people from NC have thin skin. Can't say anything bad without them getting all upset. Do you really care what other people say that much? Sticks and stones guys from NC, sticks and stones.

For example of sticks and stones : Camaros in North Carolina look worse than Camaros in any other state.

Inspections suck.

The great state of NC does not require inspections at all on cars over 35 years old. So pick up a 1st gen or 2nd gen and enjoy!

25%-ish. It comes up around 22% on the meter.

I got them tinted up in Mooresville, only lived here for a few months and didn't realize the hassle I got myself into. I'm sure I can figure it out. I think it looks really good dark, so I don't really want to take them off and get 35%, but I guess if it saves the hassle, I could always do that.
