STRIPES AND SHIFTERS Oh My!

Word is that the angst level can decrease as rally stripes and Hurst shifters will be done at the factory

If true, this is good news. Is this info from a reliable source? I certainly would prefer my stripes to be applied at the factory.

Dealers?

Wonder if it had small thing to do with the delay?

ADI

Quite possibly, Canadian Auto Workers were actively seeking the business in plant and I think it is great that they got it.

So that means we won't be getting to keep our original shifter.

Awesome...now the dealer can't rip my butt for some "unknown" expense!

Much, much happier with the factory doing both!!!

I just emailed my dealer, hoping this is true. Now they can't mess up my black rally stripes!

If this is true, I sure hope they install the shifter with the original leather wrapped knob. (Man I hate talking about my knob in public). Seriously though, I really really want my original knob. I have emailed my dealer several times about it and was not worried because the install was going to happen there at the dealer. Now I feel like I have no control over what happens and just hope my wishes are somehow heeded.

I hope this is a fact, I hated another day delay once my camaro was actually here so the dealer could molest my car installing the hurst.

White and gray are already done by the factory, I think this is for "all" stripe packages.

The response I got from my dealer (usually pretty in the loop, as he has his own 2SS on order):

Quote:
Hey Kevin,

GM said they were going to try to make all stripe packages available at the factory, as well as the Hurst shifter.
Still no word as of today.
I should know before production starts in mid March.

The stripes with the 2LT and 2SS (RS?) were done at the factory..I guess my question should have been for a 1SS will the factory now do the stripes??...they were not Available in the workbook for the 1SS...they were available as a dealer install.

I'm thinking (hoping rather), that all stripes, at least all rally stripes, will be factory installed, regardless of color or trim level. I don't know if GM will make this a reality or not, but if they're going to expand their color offering, might as well expand the trims as well.

Good news! Lets hope it is across all trim lines, not just the 2LT and 2SS.

Now if only they'd also install the performance exhaust, CAI and shorty headers at the factory.

So then buy the hurst aftermarket and put it on yourself. Then you pay less AND get to keep the shifter.

This is true. The only real downside of this is that you won't see the Hurst Shifter option on your window sticker. This may not be significant at all to some people, while others would gladly pay the extra $100 - $150 just BECAUSE the window sticker would show the option (I'm one of the suckers who would pay extra to have this on the original option list).

And then there are those who don't have the tools, mechanical ability, or desire to do the job themselves. They would probably end up spending about the same amount of money for the shifter and the labor, but would also be able to keep the original shifter (for whatever reason).

The DIY installation should not be too bad, judging from the two I've done in the past - each took about an hour...
