Nah...no one is going to go for a Friday night cruise. I already discussed that with a few of the AZDOT guys and the officers doing the escort don't want to have too much traffic problems (with rush hour). AZDOT wouldn't approve our permit if we wanted to do this on a Friday either.

We won't need to worry about construction too much. AZDOT wants us to do this...they want it to work. The feeling I got this morning was that if we were coming through, they'd do what they needed so we could pass. It was a rather good conversation and quite frankly, I like working with these guys...really nice. They just need one piece of freaking paper from us to go ahead with this! AGH!

Now...going to submit that new route and see what they say. If they say it's a go, then we won't need to worry about anyone or anything else. Then we need to finalize INS and submit it to our police escort. We should be good then.

Excellent work Tag, and can't wait for the final results. This is going to be a blast and reminds me of when I went on a couple of Hot Rod Power Tours.

Not set in stone.

If we don't get the insurance paperwork by this Friday, there will be no cruise.

But, if you look up top at the latest map, that is the route that is currently being worked by ADOT.

New Route Warning

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if what I'm reading is correct, the new route you are trying that runs on the 202 past Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe will be going at the same exact time as the Pat Tillman will be happening. I've ran in it the past 3 years and I'm running again this year..... so no cruise for me :( The run will host 25 to 30 thousand people, so as you can see, it's a pretty big deal.

The area around Tempe will be a nightmare for traffic and there will be delays on the 202 with people trying to get off at exits around the stadium. Some info for you....

Looking at the run route and our route I do not see how the two would interfere with each other as we will be on the 202 and the runners will not.

I do not think it would. Since we will be leaving at 8:30 it will take a bit of time to get all 300+ cars going. We will be going N on the 101 and then by about 9:30 we will be heading W on the 202. By that time the run should not be a problem as if there was a backup it would be on the eastbound 202.

ADOT would be the ones to ask if they think it will be a problem.

Tag, I agree that we should probably check with ADOT about what it's been like the past few years. I wouldn't just assume though that the freeways will be fine by that time. ~25,000 is a lot of people and I know the race has a rolling start meaning that it starts at 7am, but some people aren't even getting there and starting the race until 7:30 or 8am. Remember guys, I've been there the past 3 years and I've seen the craziness on the highways trying to get there. Also, they may have permanent closures on some off ramps of the highway for this that will still be there when you are driving and will have been causing traffic delays all morning and possibly not cleared up by then.

I've got an idea.... cruise at like 12pm after I get there

Im running it again this year as well... I posted it in the C5Fest boards a long time ago... its a shame we'll be missing the cruise.

I agree ADOT and the Police escorts should be involved here - If they are ok with it ultimately it will come down to a timing issue and our long line of traffic will impede normal traffic flow. The 202 is 6 lanes and can accommodate a lot of traffic. As I see it we will be arriving when most should already be at the PAT RUN [start] and exiting the area way before people from the PAT RUN are leaving.

I think we are OK here but it’s all in the timing to be 100% sure.

I will be driving this route tonight and will comment on any troubles I see - nothing like a dry run to be sure.

Ok here is my report - everything looked fine we can stage cars along price road and enter the 101. I took a couple of incar videos Preview 1 is the Pat Tilman Run area and Preview 2 shows we will have a challenge for turn C. -

This shows that the Pat Tillman Run area should not be a problem.|

This shows that the area necks down to a single lane – Kind of confusing because of the number of road signs. Road is Clearly marked with white paint designating I10 East – Driving on the lane marked I10 E gets you in the proper lane. Notice traffic may enter from the right and need to cross over. You’ll see an example of the merging lane when the song Roxanne starts to play.
