Cool Old life crisis

l am in my late 60s and have an rs ss on order. Many will think l am in a old life crisis for doing so. lol But please know this, l purchased my first new corvette in 68 and have owned at least one for the past 40 yrs. Presently in my hanger are C1,C2,C3. corvettes Listening to the politicians makes me wonder if the camaro, mustang, challenger are truely on their hit list and we better get them while we can. Personally l enjoy seeing a ratty mustang or camaro more then the latest camry or accord. l only post this to see if anyone else shares my concerns.

Yeah I think Obama and his crooks are going to kill off V-8's in the coming years. That is another reason I am getting a 2SS to probably have one of the last muscle cars that run on gas.

I think you're right. And from one old fart to another .. welcome

BTW, I'm 66. There was a thread on age around here awhile ago. We're in the top five or so with regard to "experience". Enjoy your Camaro

How bout laying off the politics here...please? Especially when they aren't even factual. Current Cafe rules were signed by Bush.

Well, the V8's may be on the hit list, but lets remember this is America and we have elections every 2-4 years. If we speak loud enough and put the correct people in office we can undo any damage that is caused. We just need to start speaking out and being heard. Perhaps when the American Auto Companies are tired of getting their butts kicked by the Foreign Competition, they will build what the public wants, not what the government tells them to.

is this a political topic?

My point is with all his movements to want to get off foriegn oil but not will to drill here that the days of the V8 are numbered.

If we really want to get off foreign oil, we need drill more here and now along with developing green alternatives. That will come to light in the spring when gas prices skyrocket AGAIN! America is about choices! Why is this so hard for politicians to understand. Not everyone wants to drive a civic. God knows our politicians don't.

I am in late 57 and have a 2SS/RS on order. I was 17 when the '69 Z/28 came out .Two of my friends got them while I drove my '62 Ford Falcon. Wanted one ever since. Now I have '69 Zs and will soon have "book ends." Can't wait to have both at a show, side-by-side. AND, I'd like to think that this isn't an "Old Life Crisis." It should now be considered the new "mid-life" crisis, don't you think?

To the OP, you bet! I'm concerned the gov't is also going after our high hp cars and think we'd better get them while we can. While the gov't won't do away with the cars completely (or the manufacturers...), they will do so much that these cars will be built in limited quantities and the price will skyrocket.

I'm concerned too. All I know...I'm going to have one in my garage...

I say bring on the politics and the mods ought to rethink their position in censoring political discussion. Especially when a topic like this has a natural correlation to current political events and people. If you aren't thick skinned enough to endure someone having a different opinion then don't play the game.

"Theres no question about it. Wall Street got drunk--that's one of the reasons I asked you to turn off the TV cameras--it got drunk and now its got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments." GWB, speaking at a private fundraiser, Houston, Texas, July 18, 2008.

I don't mind politics especially if we are going to be comparing the current and fomer president.

Congratulations for being willing and able to enjoy doing what you want to do while you still can. I also have a 2SS - RS on order, not because I need it but because I want to have one to enjoy now. I have a 67 RS - SS that I like but it is still an old car. I have said I wish they would build a new one like it and I would buy one and this one is very good.

When it comes to arguing about politics, I have always believed that everyone is entitled to their own ridiculous opinion. Being too far left or right does the rest of us no good, IMO.

I think we can all share a little political common ground here when we agree that VOTERS do not want us to have any fun at all. The green constituents outnumber us (the enthusiasts) and we are all in their cross hairs. Emissions and consumption are the "problem" for the vast majority of voters and so goes the politician. As for performance cars - those voters could not care less about them. Look at what they drive!!!!

OP - glad to hear about the collection. Post us some pix.

-Mark.
