Selling over MSRP

I do not know why dealers are trying to sell over MSRP since this is a full pruduction car. We have two in my area one is asking $5000.00 over I was just wondering if dealers in other parts of the country are also doing this. I am in the business and this greed has always astounded me.

It astounds me as well. The first dealer we tried to order from would not give us the GM supplier discount on the vert. We had just purchased a $38,000 Silverado from them 2 weeks earlier and when we mentioned that they told us that is why we are giving you MSRP otherwise it would be $2000 over. We told him cancel the order and found another dealer that gave us what we wanted. We should take delivery sometime this week.

I got my unit at MSRP. Go to AutoNation.com, enter your zip, and get quotes. You should receive emails from several dealers (don't leave your real phone number). Write back and say "I will only pay MSRP." I am sure one of the dealers will accept this offer.

If none do, enter another zipcode for the next major city near you. Keep working until you catch a keeper.

The internet puts you in the driver's seat and levels the playing field.

Best,

Ambient in Arizona

Those dealers selling these over MSRP should be boycotted. Buy your car at another dealer and go car shopping in their lot! Love the looks on their faces!

They ask for more than MSRP because some people will pay it, of course not me, but someone will. They just need a few suckers, and then they can sell them gap insurance...

Bottom line is this. Don't ever buy form that dealer and tell everyone you know to do the same. I have been loyal to my local dealer for about 20 years and purchased or leased or recommended many sales in good times and bad for them. They wouldn't dear to rip me off now! Waiting for mine to arrive any day now from this dealer.

Paying MSRP not a penny more...should be able use my $1,000 Cadillac credit to drop it down even more.

That is where I first went to order and they told me that they couldn't commit to a price due to the rarity of the car but that they would not take my GM preferred pricing or even MSRP ??? I walked, even though I have bought 3 cars from them before.

I had a problem with their Chrysler dealership when I bought my wife's Pacifica. They were forcing me to take a test drive when I had drove one an hour earlier at a competator. All I wanted was a price. I went down to Mitchell in CT and had the SUV in my driveway in 2 hours, including 45 minutes travel time. I will never deal with one of their dealerships.

I was mad as all of the dealers were asking a premium 3-5k for a pace car. I had no idea they are asking a premium on the others. I ran into the same problem a few years back when I bought a new style GTO

You do know there is no more "GMS" or "supplier" pricing anymore? Just "preferred"
GM dropped GMS and supplier pricing at the beginning of last year after the bankruptcy.

And the world goes 'round and 'round.

Remember the markups on the SSR? The PT Cruiser? The Mazda Miata?

This stuff does not last. Manufacturers always ramp up production until demand is met.

One of the larger dealers here wanted $2500 over MSRP, but most others are willing to deal at MSRP. The real problem is that a lot of the dealers are vague about whether they actually have an allocated slot left. They say things like, we'll take your order, take a deposit, submit your order to GM, but we don't know when GM itself will address your order. It's sort of like being on a waitlist or something. Thing is, here in the NE, it's kind of pointless getting a vert unless it's delivered by around May. If we're talking about the second run of production with a delivery date in August....you're better off just waiting for next year, IMO!
