Not being able to sleep is really going to get me into trouble one of these days Spent a decent chunk of the night rotor window-shopping / actual shopping. Haven't pulled the trigger on these yet because I'm waiting to hear back from some members who've had them installed for a couple years. Both Doc and 2SSRS are running the Racing Brake rotors - Doc tracks his car like no other and 2SSRS does mostly DD driving. So wanting to hear back from both of them on how the rotors are holding up. Here's a spec sheet comparing the OEM to the Racing Brake ones.

I sent an email to Racing Brake asking if it's possible to run the rear rotors on both the fronts and the rear. Reason being is that the rears are not only bigger, but also lighter than the RB fronts. If I am able to pull this off I will be getting rid of 8 lbs of rotating mass PER front wheel and 6 lbs PER rear wheel.

Drum roll please....saving me a total of 28 lbs of rotating mass

I also looked at driveshafts - GForce came out with their new dynotech aluminum 3.5" one-piece drive shaft that is 10 lbs lighter than OEM. So that's also on the table. Just need to figure out how much I am willing to spend at the moment. I mean eventually I'm sure I'll get them both, but for now I need to figure out which one(s) I "need" the most.

RJ, I would go with the brakes... need to be able to stop more than go for safety purposes... then get the drive shaft later.

So I know y'all think that I died in some freak battleship-drag-racing accident, but I was just super busy with work, family, being a bad ass, etc. I'm going to be post-whoring up my build thread for a bit, so hang on.

Only about a month late - here's tjk_art's bowtie installed. I happen to think her rear end looks SO much better now that there's a bowtie on it.

Before

After

Close Up

I will be honest here though, I spent about 10 minutes online trying to figure out which way was "up" on the bowtie. I completely forgot that on the backside is an arrow that tell you that

Emptied my catch can. I want to say it's been about 10,000 miles since I last emptied it. I have to admit, I am quite pleased with myself on how well the rings sealed - hard break in FTW

I checked RB web page and for what they have listed for the SS, you would think that that was an error on someone's part in putting the information in because normally the bigger brake rotors are in the front just like they have it listed for the ZL1. Have you heard back from them?

I didn't catch that. RB got back to me about using the rears all around and said it wasn't possible because of how the front rotor was designed differently.

Waiting for a quote, but if the numbers are right these could be my new shoes.

Transparent smoke center with gloss black outer and inner rim. Though I might change the outer and inner rim to graphite.

Carbon fiber

Hey I've noticed you have a thing for carbon fiber. I just turned 17 and bought myself a 2012 2ss camaro. I really want to make the inside of the car mostly carbon fiber. I was wondering how you did it without spending 500$ on each little peice. Thanks

A lot of the parts I buy are used, my door panels and dash trim for example (picked them up off of another member in the marketplace). But when I *do* have to buy pieces new I pretty much always ask if they have a student and/or camaro5 discount. Most of the time nothing comes of it, but occasionally a vendor will knock off 10% simply because I asked. The worst thing they can say is "no" right?

So it turns out because the SC3C wheels (ones I posted a picture of) are concave they'd actually be heavier than regular (i.e. cheaper) forged wheels. And being that the whole reason I'm willing to spend the money on nice wheels is to cut down on my unsprung weight - seems silly to go with the concave wheels.

So I guess moral of the story - you can have really pretty wheels or really light wheels, not both. To a degree anyway.

Figured with the warmer weather we're getting now it's time to start upgrading again

Just pulled the trigger on a set of Racing Brake rotors from Apex-Speed.

Fronts = 5.5 pounds lighter than stock
Rears = 6 pounds lighter than stock

This yields a total unsprung weight savings of 23 pounds. For anyone who doesn't know the differences between sprung, unpsrung, and rotational weight - here's a basic explanation of the three.

Sprung weight:
  • Anything that is on the car that is carried by the shocks/springs.
  • Example(s): trunk, seats, engine, etc...

Unsprung weight:
  • Everything that touches the road before the springs.
  • Example(s): wheels, brake rotors and calipers, hubs, and bottom half of the shock(s).

Rotational weight:
  • Basically anything that rotates. here there is a bit of a mix between sprung and unsprung weight.
  • Example(s): your driveshaft is rotational weight, but it is also sprung (because the car has to carry it. Whereas your wheels are rotational, but also are unsprung weight.

I've been trying to figure out the best possible way to make my car faster in the twisites. I was going to go with IPS' intro-turbo kit, but figured putting Kaylee on a diet would be more effective.

That's not to say 600rwhp from a single turbo isn't effective

My carbon fiber AAC side mirrors are all done. Alan said he would have them shipped out tomorrow/Monday.

Same exact ones. Worked out a deal with Alan at G3 Concepts that he'd wrap a set one of his customers was trying to sell, and then once I installed them I would send him mine.

So they're still the AAC concept side mirrors - just now they're carbon fiber
