Thanks. It *might* not be as bad as it looks. But I refuse to clean it up until after the insurance adjuster looks at it.

Earl Scheib was my hero when I ran a Ford Pinto in Show Room Stock endurance races. I even got the local earl scheib shop to sponsor me.

Absolutely no cleaning around the damage until you have you check in hand.

Insurance guy called, name is Eric - seemed like a really nice guy. He is coming tomorrow morning at 9:30, so yay there. I told him that I was looking into Ivan's for the repair. He actually knows Ivan's so that was/is a good sign I guess. Eric also said that based on the report I filed the damage seems pretty bad, and he knows that sanding & painting a car can run a couple thousand dollars. So +1 for Eric for knowing how much it costs to do paint/body work on a car.

Security is "looking into it" - and I'm not bashing the officers here either, but no cameras, no witnesses, late on a Friday night. Not holding my breath.

I'm sure it'll all get worked out how I want. As much as it upsets me, this kind of thing wouldn't have happened say 10 years ago. My generation has 0 respect towards other people or other people's property. Kind of makes you wonder what values they're going to bestow upon their kids.

........ The insurance guy called me at like 8:30 this morning saying that he wouldn't be able to make our appointment and that he would call me later today or tomorrow to reschedule. I'm not mad that he had to reschedule, I understand that things come up. I'm mad because I have to keep looking at those two white gashes in Kaylee's side. I just want to clean them up already.

geez steiger, I stumble on your thread and there's scratches on your car. Only advice I would give that may not already been given is, ensure they warranty their work because as everything in paint and body has to do with chemicals and you may get shrinkage in the area they paint. All depends on the body work. After a month if there is no sign it was repainted I'm sure you would be good to go. It takes a few weeks for the chemicals to dissipate and show sand scratches etc. Ask me I know. car looks good from a distance but when you get up close you can see the work that was accomplished. Not happy.

You're getting some good advice here... I have 2 cents, you want it?

Don't wash: check
No dealership work: check

Ask for the dime tour.....

Talk to the painter: check (he may lie about the filter change but look for dirt in finished cars,
look at edges that were taped,
look for bad color match indoors and out,
what brand paint?,
ask questions and be nice to the painter & prep guy, save any conflict for the manager and adjuster,
body shops are kind of dirty as a rule, no prob, paint room should be clean and preferrably separate from body shop)

Call your car by name, that signals, "He's anal about his car", not a bad thing.

Ask adjuster if it qualifies for diminished value. (save this for last)

Spoken like a man who paints cars or at least knows his way around a body shop. Great advice.
