So today really sucked, well the afternoon anyway. I thought I'd be smart and put a protective coat of clear on my panels. Emailed Chris and he said that it wouldn't hurt the black chrome.....

It epic failed. I don't know why/how but the clear dried in a matte rough finish. All I can think is "ah crap, well this was a really expensive screw up." In the back of my head I'm thinking I can still fix this, so I busted out the girlfriends nail polish remover. Here's a comparison shot of what I had to correct. The left side is the matte-rough cleared side, and the right is a strip that I'd "corrected" with the nail polish remover.

Yea, I had my work cut out for me. Took about 2 ish hours, but I "fixed" the panels. I now decide to get smart and start testing things before I commit to them. On my newly turned leaf I check to make sure that the panels match my current black chrome stuffs. I've been going back and forth in my head whether or not they actually match, and while people may not be able to notice while in the car I'll know they don't match - and that will bug me. Call it being OCD, or whatever, it'd bug me.

So yea, they don't match. The panels are a shade or two lighter than my other black chrome pieces. Which means that my CF panels are staying in for now. why am I so particular.

I mean it was just rattle can clear. Usually rattle can clear works just fine. It's not a big deal, nothing wrong with a little manual labor.

I guess that the best way would be decide in advance which pieces you want black chrome and send it to one vendor to have them all match. But I wouldn't be too hard on yourself, I would say anybody who has an eye for things like that would be the same. Just chalk it up to experience, the best way to learn You'll get it figured out.

I told him to hold off on re-dipping the radiator cover, wanted to see how off it was in person. Well in person, it's pretty off. But hopefully no one notices. I will probably attempt to wrap the radiator cover in carbon fiber in the next few months or so. Anywho, here's a pic of the cover installed.

As you can see, it's pretty off from the rest of the carbon fiber stuff. And yes, I'm the kind of person who gets frustrated by things not matching. It's alright though, Kaylee won't be making any appearances until she's repainted.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if you can use the insurance claim to repaint her in a different color? The thought came to me the other day and was thinking about different color combos and what not. Though if insurance won't cover it then I'm not going to bother day dreaming.

are you going to CF the intake tube? if not, you should plastidip it or black chrome it.

as for the paint, you can have it done in a different color... if the cost would be the same to paint it black. the issue lies in how much the insurance is going to pay for a paint job. repainting the entire car may not be an option from the insurance.

this. you'll get XXX amount for the claim. it may or may not cover a full new paint job for the whole car. then again... it may cover the cost of 18 cans of plastidip and you can paint it whatever you want...lol

Correct. It is FIREWOLFF's camaro. Here is the write up he did on using the light tape

That's pretty much what I'll have to do. The only problem is, to do that I need to get another steering wheel bezel, speedo/tach bezel, and four gauge pack. Otherwise I'm driving around with no bezels for like a month.

Can't black chrome it unfortunately, well I *could* but I would need to acquire another CAI intake tube for the period when mine's out being painted.

In my ideal world, the body shop guy is going to tell me that he's not comfortable painting half the car as he can't blend it THAT much. That's my perfect scenario.

Hey, it worked

sand and polish the clear coat.
Maybe, I'm just hesitant to try it again after that epic failing

Hmmm, now that I'm thinking about it though, I wonder if the Dupli-color Shadow system could darken the panels enough to make it work. Hmmm, maybe try that? Though I still need the dash trim done too so either or I have to send stuff to Chris to get it painted.

Someone left a very nice comment for me at the end of Kaylee's write up on BoldRide.com

Name: Screen Shot 2012-05-06 at 5.55.55 PM.jpg

While I'm frustrated that someone would need to be a prick and comment that, I'm kind of happy a little bit. Why am I happy about this? The person referenced "chris bonner" attended my college for MAYBE a period of 3 months, at which point he was asked to leave. So, being able to reference him narrows the suspect pool down to about (maybe) 15 people. That's the first good news. The second good news is that BoldRide.com requires you give an active email address to submit a comment, so that's awesome right there. Now the cherry to all of this is that most websites log the IP addresses of people who post comments/reviews/etc on their page(s). I sent Jessica (author of the article) an email explaining my and Kaylee's whole situation and that if possible I'd love the IP address and email of the person who made the comment.

That's it. Hopefully she gets back to me soon.

I honestly feel bad for people who think that they can do something on the internet and it not get traced back to them.

Ask Lupe. I bet he can do it quickly. I'm just not sure if he does black chrome. But, I know Gary (gary's customs) does.

Here's one, but as I was saying, it just looks like a nice glossy black until you get closer or the sun hits it at various angles, then the magic happens ;-)

Thanks for the link. I feel that the phantom black metallic (PBM) is a lot of AGM or CGM, pictures do them no justice.

might want to be careful on how much you post....as they can read what you are doing as well if they were so inclined to search themselves or knew of you here.

I'd be just documenting everything offline... or in the mod's section until things are over
