Manifold Cover

I removed the engine cover and I took the manifold cover off (the plasic insulated one that goes over the intake).

Anyone see any issues doing this? The only issues is the fuel rail going right over the top...but the reast of the rail is exposed directly to the engine heat...so I don't see any issues there...

here's a pic after it was all removed..

I've heard of people taking that turtle shell off, removing the insulation, and putting it back on.

I'll say that if you keep the engine cover off you need to relocate your heater hose. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107304

ADM also has a way to flip the fuel rail in order to get it out of the way as well. I don't really know much about it though.

The cotton inbetween the shell is there I think to help with the heat from the heater hoses.

I have always asked why GM didnt just relocate the hoses and not put the shell/cotton on to begin with.

As caverman said ADM carries a kit where you can relocate those hoses or you can use your search button and check out heater hose relocating.

I relocated my hoses and removed my shell along with the cotton/insulation.

Cools down fast and looks better imo as well.

Yeah i don't see the point of removing the foam insert and putting that shell back on.. It's just a waste of space..

I'm planning on doing the re-location soon.

I read somewhere that the shell was put on to soften the engine noises when the LS3 first came out in the Corvettes. Other than some amount of noise, no issues. Suggest heater hose relocation as mentioned previously.

I'm planning on taking the liner off of the hood too... I don't care about engine noise..

That I wouldn't recommend. There's not enough weight savings there to risk hurting the paint on the hood.

Really? I've seen several people without that liner...

Anybody got a walk through on the removal of the manifold cover?

As far as hurting the paint on the hood, the hood has it's own insulation.

There are 2 bolts one each side of with a J bracket keeping the fuel raid down. Un-bolt these but do not remove them from their holes.

there are 2 other bolts on the drivers side and 1 on the passenger side holding the fuel rail on. Un-bolt these. slide a wrench over the coil bracket and under the rail and apply gentle pressure. The rail should release. If not, double check that all the bolts holding the rail on are removed.

The rail should come up enough to lift the manifold shell up and straight forward...

Heater hoses relocated and fuel rail flipped 180 degrees. Then use a Vette 3/8 braded fuel line on the passenger side. Shown in pic.
My engine cover and turtle shell have been in the attic since I bought the car 1.5 years ago with no bad affects. Good Luck

I'm doing the blackout as well on my camaro on the rear facia...did you have yours painted?

I'm not sure how the 180 flip works..cause the rail goes across the middle???
