Windows dipped?
Any Canadians or North/South Dakotans (or anyone really) know any good places to get windows dipped? Tint wise... the only way to beat the law, is to have "factory" tinted windows... so if GM doesn't do it (which they won't, and haven't for awhile) i need some place that will dip the windows to tint them!
Any and all help/comments is appreciated!

Normally only the glass makers do that as far as I know.
Is there a total ban where you live or what is the limit? |

Limit is factory on the windows directly left and right of the driver (which is the only ones i need dipped). Behind the driver, any level is legal.

Ive never heard of that before. How would that even make it legal? I can just see them towing your car.

Last time I looked, factory tint was built into the glass when it is made, not just dipped and covered on the outside of the glass?? |

dipped is just that, they remove the glass and dip it into a tinting liquid that covers the window. or they can spray the tint on as well. like the tinting at the top of the windshield on nearly every car out there.
regular tinting is a plastic film that is glued to the window.

Dipped? Still doesn't sound like that would all of a sudden make it legal since it is still not "factory" tint...

well, some vehicles come factory with side window tinting. I dont know of many off the top of my head. but the fact that its dipped in a factory style application (and if the cop doesnt know any better), you can claim it as "factory tinting" unless its like 5% or something.

I think you're still taking a risk of getting tickets with the dipping. Especially when more Camaros come out. They'll see that's it's not something from the factory.
You could get out of it if you had a medical reason for needing tinted windows: http://public.findlaw.com/traffic-ti...ws-basics.html |

I just have one question for you...Are you seriously going to dismantle the interior and doors to take all 4 side windows and the rear window out of a brand new car, get them dipped, and then put it all back together well enough that none of the seals leak?
Best of luck to you! |

Really? You'd trust your new Camaro to be dismantled by a couple of window guys and you think it will be put back together just like it came from the factory?
Heck, based on my experiences, I have a hard time trusting the guys in the Chevy dealership's service department to do that, even with the proper GM service manuals and tools. |

I've looked into it, and it's the only way around the law (exception of being allergic, but that won't fly without a doc's note. And that doesn't work, because "if i cause a wreck due to my tint, and the law checks out why tint is on the car, and it comes back to the doctor, they can lose their license." I also checked into it. Dip the windows. Simple, if i can find a place that will do it. Supposedly the glass manufacture...

I've never heard of this notion that dipping your front windows will get you out of tickets as a way round State tinting laws. Frankly, I'm having a hard time believing this, but I'd do it in a heartbeat if it were the case.

Gotta love this shit!

Are you trying to go for the obsidian look? Why go through all that trouble for super dark tint only to risk the ticket? All of my vehicles were tinted the step just below legal (for that state) and I've never had a problem. On my Sonata (when stationed in MD) I put 35% on the doors and rear glass, and a 10% strip on the windshield. No one said anything.

OK. To clear things up. I'M CANADIAN. And here, in my province, the loophole in our law is that if the window is "factory tinted" is is legal. Factory tint counts if the window was taken out, "dipped", (or "sprayed") and re-installed. I know what i'm doing here, i just want to know if there are any window factories that are somewhat close to me. (South East Saskatchewan)
So far all i have is no, because no one here has obviously ever heard of it. The exact same thing would be to order the Camaro sidewindows from a glass maker, already tinted. Same deal. Maybe Canada411 can help me...

Oh OK, you're CANADIAN, that's why!!
Here in the U.S.A. the cops know that the windows come from the factory with the laws obeyed. They know that the front seat windows and windshield can't be tinted lower than 4" from the top. They don't try to peel off the tint to see if it's legal or not. I looked and haven't seen anything here about dipping windows, but have seen sprayed on. (In the USA) |
