JBA High-Flow Cats Weird sound??

I'm getting this weird sound coming from my passenger side ever since I installed my JBA High-Flow Cats. When I first installed them I didn't hear it but then later it came up. It sounds like a grinding/rattle type of noise. It's almost as if the exhaust is rattling but not sure. Me and William from Vanceboro, NC spent a good amount of time today trying figure out where the sound is comin from. We pinpointed it around the passenger cat area. We checked down there and couldn't find anything loose. We checked the heat shield too but it wasn't it. The noise only comes up around the low RPM's of 750-800RPM. Have any of you guys experienced this before or know how to fix it? Btw it's not the AFM/DoD as I had my car tuned.

Take a rubber mallet and give the cat a thump. I don't know how the JBA is made but SOLO welds as they wind in multiple places, to prevent any breakage. I ASSume since they do this, there must a potential for it to happen.

I had a similar noise on my LS3 right after I installed my high fllow cats and mine was only on the passeger side. I only had ramps and couldn`t see the problem. It was driving me nuts so I took to a shop and put it on the hoist we found the slip on connector tab bolt head was too close to the heat shield and when driving it would hit the heat shield and vibrate and make god awful noise. I then drove the car home and put it back on the ramps, loosened the the manifold bolts of that cat and slightly angled it away from the shield, put a wedge in between while tightening up.
The noise was gone and never came back. I would have never found the noise on my own without the lift and being able to move the exhaust up and down. Good luck maybe yours will be the same.

What will hitting it with a mallet do?

Rubber Mallet is a safe way to create vibration and help track down a buzz or rattle. The harmonics created be the thump will bleed down and cover a broad spectrum. Helpful if it happens only at a certain point.

William tried to do that to find where the sound was coming from but nothing.

First off..if it was the cat..the cat would rattle when hit. I would say check for leaks. Also keep in mind, it will be somewhat noisier with only two high flows instead of the four factory cats. Next step would be drop the part and inspect it.

Well, me and my buddy just jacked my car up to find out what's going on. We removed the two nuts and bolts holding the high flow cat on the manifold on the passenger side where I was hearing the noise and found the gasket was messed up due to improper seal. We are about to get a new gasket and high temp silicon to give it a proper seal. Hopefully this will take care of the noise. Will keep u guys updated.

Hey Eric, silicone should not be needed if the gasket seals properly. Also if the gasket is close to the O2 sensor be careful as some silcones are not O2 friendly, they do have special silicone for use around them. Read the label.

It is sensor safe.

Okay so we finally fixed the gaskets and guess what? The sound is still there. Well we didn't give up there. We look through the entire exhaust and found a tiny little pipe right next to the X-pipe. I guess it's supposed to be the transmission vent. We put it on a jack and cranked it up and confirmed the sound. Is it safe to cut this tube/vent?
