Any Former 2005-2011 Mustang Owners with Advice?
I'm a new Mustang owner with a lemon and out there looking, the one thing that I'm having a hard time with in the Camaro is the view out. During the test drives I found I couldn't see traffic lights at stops. Did you find the limited view out hard to get used to?
Any former 2005-2010 mustang owners out there care to share their experiences transitioning? |

I'm 6'4" and i love my car. Yes i had the same issue with visability but it's such a fun car to drive you live with it. I have to look down at time to see the traffic lights but small price to pay for a permagrin!

Yes the sightlines are difficult to get used to. My list of issues that came up in transition would be; knowing where the front of the hood is, knowing if the driver's side is in the parking space and judging distance backing up. Since I've had my car for over a year it got much easier because I got used to what to expect from the sightlines. The Mustang is easier to see out of but still has more blindspots than less dramactically styled cars. There was a reason all cars were shaped like jelly beans, they were easy to see out of. I'll keep my Camaro, everyone eles can have the jelly beans.

Not a former 05-11 owner, but I had a 2004 cobra and honestly I don't think visibility is that much worse than that car. It does seem a little restrictive at first, but you get used to it fast and then you don't even notice any difference from driving other cars.

What's the problem with the car? If you're tall, visibility isn't horrible in the camaro. It's not great, but it's not unbearable. If you're short it will be much worse.

I could see out of my mustang much better than my camaro no doubt. Does it bother me no. You get used to it after awhile.

Ford is having a nightmare with the Ford/Getrag MT82 transmission in the V6/GT/BOSS models. Clutch also. Grinding gears, on/off clutch engagement, etc. They just can't seem to fix it. Mine has been in the shop 6 times and I'm on my 3rd Clutch, 3rd flywheel and second transmission at 4,000 miles. The transmission is built in China and the clutch assembly in Turkey.

I'm confused about what problems you yourself are having. If you're car has been in the shop 6 times for the same problem and it hasn't been fixed under warranty, can't you lemon law it?

Oh, I am. It's been in the shop 42 days so that is an automatic "lemon" in California. Just waiting for settlement info and doing my homework on a replacement vehicle. Personally, I love the stang but unless the 2012 owners taking delivery now can verify the issues have been resolved, I'm not going to bite. Hence me looking at the Camaro and Challenger.

Ah, I see. Yeah, maybe the best thing to do would be rent a camaro for a week. I know enterprise rents them. If you can't get over the view after a week, you may not be able to deal with it, but I have a feeling you'd get used to it. Have you driven the challenger yet?

I would recommend getting the auto Mustang. If that is not an option then I would go for the Challenger.
I have owned all 3 and I would consider it: Mustang Challenger Camaro Feel free to PM me if you would like specifics. |

I daily drive my Camaro and visibility is not an issue. You adjust and look over your shoulder when changing lanes (just like I do with all my cars).

Sounds like some people have an actual problem and some have never owned a manual car before. When the trans is cold, it's tough to downshift into second or out of neutral into first in my car and almost any manual car I've ever driven. If it goes away at operating temps it's perfectly fine. Some of the other problems are definitely abnormal though.

My MT-82 and stock clutch have been good so far and have run the car with stickies on it at the track.

Yeah, there is an an obvious issue here with at least a portion of 2011 production if not the whole run with respect to the 6-speed cars, but the thread at allfordmustangs has devolved to the point where it really isn't useful for much of anything. Ah, the wonders of the internet

For the traffic light issue. A couple years ago I saw something in the back of a car and driver mag I think it was that was a shaped piece of glass that glued to the windshield and reflected the light and made it easier to see. Anybody heard anything like that??

There is definitely a real problem here that ford needs to address, but a lot of the posts are people hearing about the problem and overreacting to normal manual transmission activity in cold weather. Quite a few of their concerns are legitimate, some of them are just complaining about the normal action of first ( a non-synchro gear) in cold weather.

I had an '05 Mustang and honestly the Camaro is not that hard to see out of IMO. It takes a little while to get used to but you will be fine. The chop top look is definitely worth losing great visibility. The form comes before the function in this case lol. Be prepared for lots of attention if you get one, way more than you got in the Mustang.
