well looks like my camaro's gonna see a looong tour of duty. I for me a car is a little more than a way to get from point A to B. If that were the case Id be driving an Aveo. Ill never buy a car that doesn't perform, to me thats a waste of money. My "Big" V8 gets close to 30 mpg, no way in hell Ill ever settle for some gay "eco friendly" car that ends up getting me the same gas milage.

I'm done with GM then after the Camaro SS then. And if the SS is discontinued before I can get it in 2011/2012, well the GM lost my business for good. There are still manufacturers out there that know the way to my heart. Sounds like I'll be headed to Mazda, Hyundai, Nissan, or BMW's CPO lot next.

It's likely GM will still put sporty cars out, they just won't be the full SS' that we've come to know and love. I can't see them totally blanding cars out... the 90s are over.

Honestly I'm taking this to mean that GM will still have sports cars but just won't have sport editions of non-sports cars.

Basically the Camaro, and Vette will be unaffected but no NEW HHR SS, Silverado SS, Cobalt SS, STS-V, etc.

At least that's my guess. CAFE and public and legislative perception will surely play a role in future product releases though.

You can take your Hussein statement and shove it up your _ _ _! And if you still think Bush had anything to do with helping the big 3 out, well then my friend you are the one who who needs to educate yourself in politics!

This thread should be ended. IMO this is no place for Political debates. This is a Camaro enthusiast site, not Bash our government or bash GM site!

This is the real question. How long does the R&D take on a new performance variant? A couple years from start to finish? Even if and when they reinstate the programs, it's still going to take that extra R&D time. Expect at least 5 years before we see anything fast and new.

I had high hopes for a Cruze SS. Cobalt SS performance with Cruze quality. As it stands the Mazdaspeed3 is still the best sport compact.

The SS products were never really anything super special(but still a nice upgrade), but the V-Series product line is what put Cadillac in the same league as BMW, Mercedes and Audi!

Look for GM to become the new Toyota!

Relax!! its all cyclic. Its like fashion, things will be back to normal in a few years, we will be churning out high performance cars by the bucket loads. Its an image issue that GM has to show in order to keep in line for the loans its getting right now. PR at its best!

Yep Cyclic it is, it sure is not all green though, 47k jobs out of the door is not something that happens every few years ... lets hope for the best though:

That said here is the version I'm getting when reading around :
GM is technically already in bankruptcy state, barely living out of the federal "bail out " loans it is getting from the government.
Even though right now sounds like the best time to get a bankruptcy deal backed by the govrnmt (debt managment, employment political obligations), one of the reasons GM wouldn't be signing for chapter 11 is because under bankruptcy / chpt11 management the provision allows a debtor who, instead of owning common stock, but rather bonds and liens on assets, to make a bid for the company... Sure must make some executive /owners / with large ( very large at this level) stock options benefits plan and stakes in the company think twice ... The company's ownership is in the balance.

Let's see, there still is room, as you mention, for them to take hopefully part of their brands out of this turmoil over several years... Let's hope they are betting on the right horse.

Have you taken it into consideration yet that they need money, and like a kid asking its parents will say anything to get it? I am sure GM deep down inside will not be canceling anything. In fact, this little stunt may lead to an AMAZING expansion of power cars a few years down the road. They might all be under lock and key and no one even knows about them, but to stay a float, something had to be done.

Besides, has anyone thought of the potential of electric motors????

Did I say anything that was not true? Is he not our Beloved president? Did he not make the statement when Gas was over $4.00 a gallon that he would like to see it go to around $8? didn't his choice for energy secretary say he would like to see the price of gas here be the same as in Europe? (which at that time was 8-10 dollars a gallon). Wasn't it stated as a part of the viability plan was to sell more fuel effecient vehicles? All I was saying in response to the EPA post is that our current administration has already made it clear on their opinion of gas guzzeling vehicles. Nothing more was meant by it. I said nothing to warrent that comment about watching my mouth about Obama. He said those things, I didn't and if you are offended by someone pointing that out YOU are the one with the problem.
