ticket and lawyers

well i have recently gotten a speeding ticket. long story cut short. i was going 60 in a 40 at 2am in a rush because i had a long 1 and 1/2 drive infront of me. well the officer puts 85 in a 40..i was wondering. how did he catch me? if my rader didnt go off or anything! he puts vehicle passed by mdpd...is that even a reason type thing?
but here is my question.

i went 60 but he put 85. w.e. but here is the thing. should i pay for a lawyer to do all the work but like it might be more expensive and such or should i just go by myself? what does everyone think?

Can't speak for Florida but out here in Arizona 25 over is a felony. I would check there first and if it is get a lawyer. If its a misdeamor of any level just pay your fine and let it go.

I'd Get a lawyer. I got pulled over for 105 in a 65 and got it reduced to a parking ticket and no points.

my vast experience in this area has shown a judge likes to see you well dressed with a lawyer......the judge appreciates the money you spent in your defense.............a good lawyer makes most of the charge or charges go away

wow 25 over a felony in Az, that cant be true ????

I always hire a attorney, it cost about 75 or so a ticket and go to court in about a year or two. Talk to the attorney, and they call my name and say dissmissed and I walk out. That is if I cannot get the officer to get rid of the ticket before it gets turned in and is official. Once I know my cop friends ect cant help that attorney gets my business..

Lawyer up. You have a much better chance with a lawyer than you do alone.

wow.....in most places if he actually tagged you at 45 over.....you would be going straight to jail, you would be in Texas anyway.

get a Lawyer......if you were to just pay it.....that woulod certainloy cost you a few MOD's, thats for sure.

My b/f is a deputy in florida (tampa) and he said rather then pay a lawyer, just call the mdpd and ask to speak to the officer who gave you the ticket. You have his name and the ticket number. You can ask him if he turned the ticket in at 80mph. They can change the ticket right before they turn it in and you wont know until you pay it or go to court and if thats the case here, you just wasted a lot of $$.

50 over in florida is a felony so you are okay there. He couldv'e caught you by pacing u. They dont all have radar or even laser. Good luck!

If you were NOT truly going 85, then he guessed at your speed and wrote what he thought you were doing. That would explain why your radar did not pick him up. That is wrong of him to do and I would lawyer up for it. You can get discovery from them to show the radar settings of the gun. If it's not calibrated - ticket gone. I would NOT pay for a ticket that I am NOT quilty of, period. It would be a min. of 6-8 pts. on your license at 85 and possibly even reckless driving; which will lead to higher insurance premiums, etc. if you are found quilty of it or plead no contest to it. LOOK clean when you go to court. The other poster is right - looking serious about this can help you out. At the least, you will likely get it reduced.

OP, could have been any number of ways they could have measured your speed. Best advice is to take it to Court and talk with either the officer or the prosecutor/Attorney General (this will all depend on the process for your State). I wouldn't admit to doing 60/40 right out. Just ask if you can have the ticket reduced. I am sure 45 over the limit is some loss of license so it wouldn't be a bad thing for you to consult with an attorney. Talk with some of your friends and see if anyone is friends with an attorney who may give you some "free" advice as to the best course of action. Good luck !!
