Available to order 29 September, 2012.

Only 1,968 Z28 GS (Grand Sport) models will be built in honor of the 1968 Sunoco Camaro Championship season and the Grand Am GS class Camaro's (hopefully they pull off something to commemorate).

The Z28 GS will be the gift to the collectors like the Boss 302 Laguna Seca... Sorry SSX...

BIG EDIT: THIS IS ONLY MY CREATION, THIS IS NOT REAL........ YET....

First 100 Z28 GS's pre-ordered will come with a PAINTED number from 00-99 (Number 6 will be sold at Barrett-Jackson to cover my commission). The American Flag front quarter panel sticker is optional...

First fully functional "mailslot" is standard on all Z28's and Z28 GS models. Comes with painted BBK painted forged aluminum wheels (matches stripes)

So far it comes in Sunoco Blue with Yellow stripes and ABM with choice of Black or White stripes.

Almost unlimited stripe style options. If you have seen stripes on a Camaro from 1967 to 2012, that style will be available... prices may very...

Let's get really crazy with this:
  • quadrouple dual side-exit exhausts
  • HD projection windshield-screen capable of live track playback while driving
  • surround sound system with so may speakers we're still counting
  • bendolium body armor that changes aerodynamic properties when turning to keep hugging the road

In honor of the year 1968 and there being 1,968 built. Chevrolet will select 68 of these Z28s at random by VIN# ..and those 68 will be sold for $19,000.

2013 Camaro Z28 will be equipped with GMPP Onboard Performance Tracker (OPT);

Onstar and the NAV will be modified into the first ever, factory onboard performance tracker. using existing Onstar location information GPS technology. Performance statistics will be displayed directly to the NAV screen or intergrated into the HUD display.

Z28 OPT includes:
* Detailed track layouts
* Track conditions, elevation, temperature, wind direction and humidity
* Lap times and track speed in real time
* OPT also can display 1/4 mile time/speed, best mph in time (0-60, 0-100) best distance in time (60ft times) and braking distances
* OPT data can be recorded and stored via USB thumb drive and reviewed/recorded on laptop or home PC's

Other Z28 OPT features:
* intergrated HUD display of track layout and previous/best lap times
* intergrated NAV screen display
* Displays previous track routes and performance

This is all I have for now but I can think of about a thousand things an performance tracker could be used for like the track layout that you can monitor the speed, RPM and time at any point of the track. I would also like to see the top speed and average speed on each lap displayed on the NAV screen or HUD.

Suspension: I cannot see the Z28 using F55 Magnetic Ride Control but it will use an upgraded suspension. Here's some info on the F suspensions and the Z packages that come with them. Note: You will see that the FE4 package that is coming up in the 2012 SS is actually a Z06 option... read on...
Quote:
The base suspension RPO is FE1, the FE3 suspension is a part of the Z51 package, which includes larger diameter sway bars, higher rate springs, stiffer shocks, and a power steering cooler. The Z51 package also required the G92 performance axle ratio (3.15) if the car was to be equipped with the A4 automatic.

The FE1 package is a part of the F45 Selective Real Time Dampening and the F55 Magnetic Ride suspension. The difference between these options and the FE1 is the shocks.

For reference purposes, the FE4 suspension is the Z06.
So, it looks like the suspension package that will be on the up coming 2012 SS will be standard on the Z28.

I have some ideas on how to improve the overall layout of the 4.5 link IRS but will leave that for another time.

Since the FE4 was produced primarily for the Z06 and wasn't availible for any other Corvette, I would say its a pretty big deal to get the FE4 suspension on a standard SS (Which I am calling the 4SS.... you can have that one GM). That suspension package contains a few things, first I will list them and then I will speculate.
The FE4 - Z06 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE had a large, hollow front stabilazer bar at 30 mm with 4.5 mm thick walls. It also had aggressive camber settings of front and rear: -0.75 degrees which was three times that of the regular Corvette. It also came with a stiffer rear composite transverse spring leaf which the Camaro does not have... This package also contained the Z51 shocks and I will have more information on those soon.

This could be the basis for which the package could be defined minus the leaf spring of course... unless they found a way to upgrade the Camaro with the transverse leaf spring set up. That would eliminate the not-so-good IRS setup the 2010-11's had. It would be a great way to shed 100lbs. Now that the C6 Vette is on its way out, it looks like the Camaro is getting all the Z06 left overs. These pieces will make a nice Z28. LS7, MN6 transmission, FE4 suspension.. could be really cool... Z51 was the coupe/convertible Corvette upgrade similar but not as extreme as the FE4. I have heard the shocks were better than the F55's.

Could you imagine a Camaro that only weighed 3700lbs from the factory?

ThePill, you took the words out from the rest of my post about the NAV system. I wrote something a bit convaluted and deleted it. However, you put it very descriptively and captured the perfect system. If only they would really listen to you.

I nominate ThePill as head of GM's design team for the Z28.
ThePill, I would like my Z28 by Jan/2012 and in blue.

Sorry Gentleman... Voting has closed... and the new head of the Z28 design team is...... Me!!!!

Is that Sunoco Blue (As seen above and only avalible on the Z28) or ABM? Ok, I guess we can bump up the September 29th, 2012 order date to September 29th, 2011. The order date has to be on the 29th of September... Since we can't wait for the LS5.5 before the C7 uses it... we will have to go with the LS7.

As awesome as this idea is, you can't be the head of the GM design team while driving a Mustang.

Sure I can, there are employees at GM that drive Fords, There are even people on team Camaro that drive Mustangs.. But anyway...

As Head of the Z28 Design Team, my first order of action is to assemble a team of Chevrolet engineers, preferably chassis engineers, and send them down to Virgina International Raceway on May 13th. They need to take a look at the Camaro team's suspension setup in the Rolex GT class. Camaro GT.R's are permitted to change position of the suspension mounting points on the chassis. Those mounting points may be moved or changed by not more than one inch as long as they use the original type of the suspension.

Now, we are interested in what those teams have done to improve on the original design of our 4.5 link IRS that our Camaro uses. We should generally start with Stevenson Motorsports because I'm sure Pratt and Miller will put in a good word for us. These teams have race experience and actually just finished 2nd two weeks ago, we need to see where those suspension points have been moved to. This is the type of improvements we need to be looking at, this is what we want on our Z28…
