Only when you put the car in reverse. You connect it to the backup light power (Ofer's harness takes care of that).

I know that jimmyh said you can do it with out removing overhead console, But take it easy doing it that way, On 2010 cars past VIN 9110000 GM added glue to hold the wiring harness to the headliner.

Darth_Emma we don't need no stinking warranty, LOL i lost my warranty long time ago, 55000 Mi does that to you.

My VIN is 9181297, so does that mean I have glue and should remove the overhead console?

Thanks for all your help.

If there was any doubt before, I think my warranty was certainly voided when this happened:

What you see there is the cam install with LS3 conversion.

I kinda went nuts with mods this spring. It's a long list that starts with the motor, goes through the tranny (torque converter), and ends with some suspension mods. It is supposed to be on the dyno this weekend for tuning. Updates will be in my car journal soon.

I didn't have problems tucking the wires into the headliner. You can tell it's glued down (or up? ha) But there was enough room.

Besides which, the plug was not in the headliner or the overhead console, it was outside the headliner. Covered by a plastic cover between the mirror and the headliner.

But, once you connect the harness, you have to stuff the harness (connectors and all) up into the headliner. No? I'll figure it out.

That is correct. It's a tight fit, but it all DID fit. otoh, the headliner has a nice curl to it by the windshield, so the wire that you run from the mirror to the pillar falls in and stays in. I have done LOTS of speaker phone kits, so I have mounted alot of microphones up there. On most cars, it is a major PITA to get a wire to stay in the headliner. they always want to fall out.

Dude your pictures rock! Every time I had a question I found a picture to answer it. I just ordered my gentex mirror and ofer harness and camera today. If you hadn't been so thorough I would have planned to pay someone else to install it. I have no doubt this will take no time at all thanks to you!!!!

Thanks for this write up...the only thing I might do differently is use heat shrink tubes on the video/power connections....looks pretty straight forward....

This camera has really come in handy. When i back in to my garage, I line up one of the index lines on my camera with the shelf on my workbench. I don't have to creep along anymore waiting for the warning tones to increase.

Awesome Installation!

Great installation guide. Excellent pictures and instruction. You mentioned total price for all necessary equipment at $350. The best price I can find is $649. Can't find a lower price.

I love my backup camera. When Ofer was down for CFII he helped put in his new harness as I had everything else already ran. This mod makes backing up a breeze now. I got everything for about $280, but I think since many of us are getting these some vendors on e-bay and such are seeing the demand and raising prices. Ofer's price is very good and this way you get all the componets from one source.

Someone pm'ed me a question about the hole for the camera, so I thought I would post it here:

I just used a 3/8" drill bit. I wiggled it from side to side to make the hole oblong, as the plugs on the camera harness won't fit through a 3/8" hole. The paint around the edges did crack a little, but I don't see the big deal, as the mounting surface of the camera is over an 1", so it completely covers that hole.

Does the plastic cover that extends from the headliner to the rear view mirror mount have to be removed or can it snap back in after
