Inspection problems.......

Ok guys, lot of you know my setup, if not read the sig and you will find out.

Well I got my inspection renewal in March, so after getting another tune from Vince, I went in after driving about 300 miles and received 2 Not Readys from the OBDII scanner at the inspection station. NC only allows for 1 on cars newer than 2002. The Catalyst and Evaporation system keeps popping up as Not Ready and the CEL has never turned on at any point in this process.

Now I called Vince and he said I need to drive the car for another couple weeks, and it should be ok. He mentiond there was another v6 with similar issues and the driver drove the car for a couple weeks and it all worked out. I asked him if he turns off any of the monitors with his custom tune, he said no, its obviously calibrated different so CEL doesn't come on.

I drove from Charlotte to Richmond roundtrip yesterday. I did a nonstop drive on the way back and went straight to the mechanic to have it inspected, no dice. Thats a little over 600 miles total.

At this point I am going to try doing the GM Drive cycle, and I am going to pick up my own OBDII scanner because I am sick of going to the mechanic. I have a week and half left before my tags expire and then I can either apply for an exemption and pray to God I get it, or install the old cats back on just to have her inspected

I just wanted to post this so people have info to reference. I don't want to turn this into a bitch thread about longtubes, hi flow cats and this tune or that. Those are obvious comments and pretty much useless.

So if you have other suggestions that have worked, post them please. Or PM me

Wish it was that easy. To get the stickers you need to pass that damn computers test, the technicians have no overrides or anything. This is a mess. NC State senators are actually trying to get rid of inspections like SC has, but they drag their feet on everything in the State House. I may have to move to SC next year if this keeps going.

I would start testing your car and look for solutions. You can get a scanner on amazon for 30 some bucks.

Ok update for everyone......

So the first week of May I did not make any progress. Parents were in town, so I was busy showing them around. Then this entire past week I was in Philly working. During that time the weather in Charlotte was pretty chilly. The whole time I was in Philly the car sat in the airport parking deck. I left Saturday the 7th and did not turn the car on till Friday the 13th. I finally got around to scaning the car with my equipment this morning. Lo and behold.......the Evap Monitor is ready now!!! The Catalyst is still not ready, but who cars, in NC you can get away with one Not Ready monitor!

So all in all I put on 650-700 miles and then had the car sit there for a week w/o turning the engine. Now I am hoping this scanner is not lying to me and I am good to go when I get to the inspection station tomorrow.

Good luck Blade!!!
You just made me go outside and scan my car and you're right, I have the CAT & EVA monitors blinking yet to CEL light. I have until August before my inspection so I will probably have around 4000 miles by then. The hard part will be leaving the car alone for 1 week without turning it on .

I wonder if disconnecting the battery for a day will help?

Good luck man! That's why I like that I'm close friends with my local tire/mechanic shop that does all my stuff. They wouldn't mind stuff like that... I guess your generic inspection stations are gonna go strait by the book
