D = Drive (Normal)
M = Sport and Manual.

M - Sport gives you a more aggressive "Automatic" shift than D, but still automatic.
M - Manual is once you start "Tapping" the shift up or shift down buttons on the back of your steering wheel.

to get back to sport mode, you press and hold the right button on the back of your steering wheel.

Hope this helps.

Sorry just read the subject line... :(

I'm not a racer so some one else will have to give you the low down on "optimal" shift rpms.

But day to day and spirited diving here is my 2 cents:
So if driving normal traffic speed
  • Start in M1 rev to ~3k and tap up and continue through the gear each time you reach ~3k or what ever feel right. If rpms are too low it will not shift up. you will get a "Shift Denied" message.
  • Down shifting is similar just in opposite order. let your rpms drop to about ~2k (maybe a little lower) tap down then kept going through the gears. Can't go wrong on the down shifts for low rpms because it will automatically down shift for you.
Once you are comfortable with the above, then you can start getting more aggressive.
  • Increase revs to ~4k tap up
  • let your revs go down to ~3k and tap down
Listen to the car you will start to get a feel for it.

So Everyone else... what are the optimal shift points?? And what revs should you stay away from up shifting and down shifting??

WOT you can shift around 5900-6000 to get a good shift. I would wait to 2000-2500 to downshift because 3000 would cause it to rev really high, around 5000.

Don't fear the paddle shifters! First off, you can't do any real damage to your car using the paddle shifters... it won't let you. You may look like a fool at first, we all do... but you'll catch on quick.

For me, i wish it was more of a manual type shifter... but the paddles are fun to play with.

Although... just puttin' it in M and standing on the gas will do the trick just as easily!
