Post Korean Car Designers Make Their Mark On the U.S. Auto Industry

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1213...Tabs%3Darticle

Quote:
Take the new Chevrolet Camaro that General Motors Corp. unveiled Monday. This revival of the iconic late-'60s muscle car is the product of Sangyup Lee, a 38-year-old designer who was doodling in kindergarten in Seoul the last time Carmaros were hot in Chevy's showrooms.
didn't know that! who would've guessed.

Sangyup Lee is a really talented designer. Regardless of his roots, he can certainly design an American classic.

I too think it was awesome that he could do such a thing. I guess it takes a fresh pair of eyes to see the true beauty in the Camaro and where to take it into the next decade.

Still, I lol'd at the "Last time the Camaro was hot in the showrooms."

Wouldn't that make him.. uh.. 12?

My desktop is the fifth gen next to the first gen. Let me tell you, even if he was a little boy in Korea at the time, he nailed it. I'm not into this whole retro thing. I think the Challenger is pointless. The Camaro is the perfect modern interpretation of the original design. If you didn't know the heritage, it would look like a thoroughly modern performance coupe, but put it side by side with the first gen and everything that defined it is all there. Absolutely brilliant.
