Yes, the "MusTAG" is something haha.

All joking aside, yes it is a great car for the money. I love how you can get so much performance out of a smaller engine. However, with that said, there is still no substitute for displacement.

I wonder which car will sell the most this year =)

considering the possible limited numbers of the camaro, and possibly taking up to october just to fulfill the preorders................. as much as i hate to say it the mustang MAY outsell the camaro (not factoring current economy into the equation)

I think the Mustang will outsell the Camaro this year and the next year easily, considering the history, economic situation at present, etc. After that is anyones guess I think. I predict they will be very close.
Very cool video btw!

cool video MM I always like to see muscle cars doing a powerslide. The fact that its a world record is great. A head to head to head between the Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro would be cool to see. Last one to have its tires explode wins.

I've been on the fence about small engines, I respect what engineers do on some engines with constraints on displacement, but I'd always prefer to have a bigger engine to make the same power, as you (sorta) said: no replacement for displacement. Interesting note though, the 4.6 in the Mustang and the LS3 in the Camaro give about the same hp/L and roughly the same fuel economy.

Best case scenario, the Camaro and the Mustang have roughly equal sales. Odds are, the Mustang will outsell the Camaro by 25% or more.

I think Mustang's exposure to this motorsport (not to mention all the other activities it's in) is what helps keep it as popular as it is. I hope Camaro get similar exposure to as many activities as Mustangs because I really think we have a better car in all areas but it can easily get lost in the sea of other cars. Don't get me wrong, I think there are a bunch of other great cars out there, but they're going to be nipping on Camaro and it's going to be a tough battle. There's room to grow for sure, but I think it's going to be up to GM to make it a car as popular as Mustang, because if it were up to us, it would've never been cancelled.

Mustangs are not popular because Ford made/makes them popular. It was/is the consumer that made the Mustang the automotive icon it is today.

If it were just a matter of producing a better car, I could probably name you a dozen vehicles in the history of the automobile that should have sold like hotcakes but, for whatever reason, never caught on with the buying public and were doomed to the dust bin of automotive history as an also-ran.

I just think the exposure and appeal of the car overall did it. Look at all the options a Mustang buyer, let alone a regular person, has. There's litterally a Mustang for every budget/power level/handling level. I shouldn't imply a customer/fan is not what makes a car popular, I should've put that differently, but Ford did it's job and continues to. I'm thinking about a 4th Gen. specifically, in this case (I'm sorry - I continue to love this car, but with the 5th. Gen., and so many other new cars out there, it's pretty dated now). There were so many concessions for performance made (IMVHO) instead of ergonomics. That was fine with me and many others, but that windshield, hump in the floor, long-low nose, long doors, etc., were just more difficult to live with for more people (IMO). Mustang didn't seem to have as many of these nuances that I think many potential buyers would've had a problem with. I think I remember reading that the 4th. Gen. was more made for the enthusiast, not so much for everybody, and that's probably what was the last nail in the coffin. It may not have performed as well, on the whole, but it fit the bill in a lot more places that appealed to more buyers. I don't know if that justifies my reasoning to others, but that's how it works out in my head.

You're right not with there being better cars out there that didn't sell well though. I just think Ford's done it the best with Mustang, as far as striking the best balance of value/performance/quality/etc. I hope GM can change things with Camaro though

My last 4 cars have been Mustangs. The 4.6 3-valve 300 HP motor is very good for everyday street use. For 2010 the GT motor is 315 HP - big deal. My 2002 Z06 and my last 2 Mustangs have shown me that there is a BIG difference between 300 HP and 400 HP on the street. Somewhere around 400 HP traction becomes the biggest issue. And, drag radials are not practical for everyday use. For "Fun-To-Drive", I want 400 HP not 300 HP. That means, for me, a Mustang GT needs a supercharger to be competitive. I'm going Camaro for 2010.

Well I was on ebay looking at them today and I don't think I could do a stock 4.6, but I do like the Saleen and the Cobra. As long as they have 400hp or better I could be swayed with the right price. It seems the Camaro is going to provide the best value at this point though.
