Factory Paint Brand?

What brand of paint do they use in at the factory? My wife got rear ended and the body shop used Dupont after the dealer told them that's what Chevy uses but the pearl (IOM) was way off.

I've scoured the net and cant find the info anywhere, I cant be the only one to ask this.

here are all the factory color codes. shouldn't matter the brand, as long as they have the code

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82503

and it will be very hard to match any kind of metallic, btw. Even with the same paint code.

well, check the paperwork to see if they have the paint code for the paint they used. if it doesn't show, then ask them. Tell them to use the paint code in the link if it's different.

edit: and sorry about the accident. I too have a pretty bad scratch on my car from a little kid on his bike while my car was parked, less than a month after i bought the car. $850 to fix, haven't fixed it yet.

It's made by GM. Here is the info I have. Brand code 917967. OEM code 28.WA502Q.WA520Q. Description: Inferno Orange. Mixing scheme: Deltron 2000 (DBC MET). Price code Z. Don't ask me what all of that means! LOL!! Hope that helps and good luck. BTW, there is usually some difference in appearance between the plastic parts and steel parts.

Nope, she didn't even have her phone in the car had to use my wifes to call her dad, she stopped about a foot behind my wife then got pushed into her by some jerkoff who fled. 2 days with a license and she already forgot your supposed to stop far enough back to see the road under the tires.

Insurance treated as uninsured motorist too because they said they wouldn't be able to prove it in court. Had to put down $250 out of pocket

Automakers don't make paint. There is no such thing as GM paint. They're either using PPG or Dupont. I've also heard they used to use Sherman Williams, but that was back in the 90s.

That sucks, good thing the insurance company gigs us for an uninsured motorist fee so we can pay an extra $250 on top of that. Kind of like the state run ABC store selling you liquor, then throwing you into jail for drinking it.

At the dealership I was at we used Sikkens. GM gave us a kick back for using it cuz they said thats what the factory used. IOM very hard to match, there is also a similar color Chrysler uses that's even worse but it can be done. The painter just has to do alot of spray out cards.

My apologies. It said GM on the can. Hopefully that will be enough info to get the correct paint.

I feel your pain... I have a 2011 2SS/RS IOM, and I was rear ended at 1600 miles, 6 weeks old and hadn't even made my first payment by an uninsured driver.

I ended up having to have the bumper painted 3 times, I wasn't happy the first two times, the third time, the finish is great on the bumper, but the issue I have is this:

When the car is painted at the factory the metal flake typically all 'flows' the same way (i.e. the metal flakes are generally all in the same direction).

The bumper was painted off the car, and in a a different 'direction' to the direction it was painted at the factory. So now, the paint looks slightly duller (shade, not vibrance) on the rear 3/4 view of the car, as the metal flakes in the paint 'flow' a different way to the factory paint.

If you look at the car side on, and rear on, the paint matches pretty darned well, it's just that 3/4 view that annoys me. (Pics below).

The (GM) paintshop I took it to said that they have about 17 different shades of IOM that they work with to get a match. Don't know if that's true or not, but as I said, I made them paint it 3 times to get it as right as possible.

The only 'silver lining' I guess is that if you look at the front of the car, where the front bumper touches the fender, the bumper is noticeably lighter than the fender, again due to light hitting it and the bumper being plastic vs metal of the fender, so I am not totally disheartened being as that is 'from the factory'. But it would be nice if it was an 'exact' match. Might have to invest in a painted bumper from the factory in the future possible if I want to rectify it completely.

Good luck and hope it all works out.

Rear View: Good paint match.

3/4 View: (the slight difference in paint hue due to the metal flake direction.)

Side View: Good paint match.

I figure I should update this.

The PPG was a 100% spot on match in both color and pearl. The body shop owner was great. They ate the cost of the paint and wouldn't accept any money from me until I was satisfied and it now looks like it was never rear ended.

Auto Body Concepts in Denton Maryland, I would suggest them to anyone for repairs and custom work.
