SS chirp gears?

How many gears do you think people will be able to chirp in the SS. I am thinking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Do you think its possible to chirp all these gears stock?

The equally weighted GTO will chirp 1-4 stock and has 30-80 less hp. We have many fun 4th gear scratches ahead of us! On cold days we might be able to break them totally loose in 4th...

Nice productive post there. Post like what you just posted is what amazes me.

I would say yes, maybe not a 4th, but 1-3 should be able to. We'll find out soon enough!

I don't think it's a dumb question at all. I had a bit over 330 RWHP in my vette and couldn't chirp in 3rd gear.....maybe I just don't know how to drive or i needed new tires, lol. The new SS shouldn't be much more than 30-40hp more than I had at the wheels....

My dad has a '92 GMC Z-71. About 5 years ago we put a 350hp crate engine in it with an Edelbrock MPFI intake. It's a manual, with about a 3ft long shifter, and 3.73's. I took it out racing against a few other guys in much newer trucks (yes, I was stupid...and redneck) and I was actually able to scratch 3rd in it. Granted I had to be back on the gas as I let the clutch out so I was making full power when it engaged, but I was able to do it. Everyone out there was picking their jaws off the ground.

It's all in how you drive it.

Scratching 4th though? I doubt it. I think in the Camaro, you're already doing over 100mph when you shift into 4th.

Tire "chirp" gear to gear.

1st, 2nd, 3rd won't be an issue. Anything above that probably will be difficult with the meat in the rear.

My 71 chevelle with a muncie 4 speed will spin or chirp every gear(consider its 4th gear is like the camaro's 5th), and i only have about 380fwhp, maybe 330 at the wheels. It probably weights about the same, Also it should chirp the tires easier than a vette, because of the weight of the vette it is easier to move forward thus less need to spin the tires, the weight of the camaro holding it back will cause the tires to want to spin more since it will resist accelerating as easily as a vette.

First of all, how is your 4th gear like the Camaro's 5th? Do you have a 2.56 rear end or something?

Second of all, not true. Don't forget the Camaro's added mass is applied to the tires, increasing the Coefficient of friction.

I use to get 3rd gear scratch in my POS 2000 Mustang GT years ago, it only had 285 HP... but then again those things were feathers in the rear end... I'm sure this thing will do it no problem, even the V6, if you know what you're doing I bet you could get to 5th possibly. But it does have a great F/R weight ratio... put on the spare donuts LOL NICE!

I think it will get 1st through 3rd gear scratches. I just would like to point out though. There are many factors contributing. I have had fast cars that would not get a 3rd or even a 2cd. That doesn't mean they wasn't fast. We will see in due time, but I am betting on a 3rd, would not count on a 4th and a 5th, I think that is a pipe dream, you should be well over 120 at that point. If it does break lose at that speed, I am not sure I would want to do that.

Get a set of the steelies and put some shitty tires on em.

(just a joke.. but some smallers tires prob more chance to slip).

Don't forget to turn off KITT first (stabilitrak... it won't let the tires slip like that of course).

I said my 4th gear is like the camaro's fifth because my fourth gear is 1:1 ratio and i thought fifth gear was 1:1 ratio on the camaro, however i was wrong, didnt know 5th and 6th were both overdrive, had to look it up. i have 3.55 rear end and very similiar gear ratios as the camaro i have 2.54 first compared to a 2.66 first in the camaro. Also a heavier car will spin more, yes their is also more weight on the tires, given a constant coefficient of friction it will get more traction, but its still harder to accelerate more mass, resulting in spinning. Its not exactly a linear ratio between the two. Only half of the added weight over the corvette is over the rear wheels, however all of that weight has to be accelerated.
