Denied insurance because of exhaust/intake?

I have Geico and I read on different forums about how Geico and other companies routinely drop people simply for adding an intake or exhaust because those are "performance modifications" and they argue it means you "race the car".

Has anyone here experienced this?

If you are in an accident, can they void your insurance if you have an MRT exhaust installed? My guess is that these companies will look for any excuse to get out of paying.

Aside from USAA, what are some mod friendly insurance companies? :(

Thanks.

yeah I never heard of that, but Geico loves to drop people. I had them for 2 years and got 1 ticket and they dropped me. That was many years ago, but swore I would never go back. Age may play a role in this as well, they may classify you in the Performance (V8) catagory with performance mods. IDK just a thought

If you lie, this could backfire apparently. From TSX forum:

"a friend of mine told his insurance company 'no' when asked if his car was modified. a few months later he got into an accident - the insurance denied his coverage because he had an intake.

damage to car was close to $10,000 and insurance tried everything they could to not pay for the repairs.

messed up situation to be in."

When you get into an accident and file a claim, the insurance claims adjuster makes note of mods they find.

you takee off all the mods you can take off? lmfao i mean i would put the stock intake back and such. if anythign just askk how they feel abot mods? i mean USAA didnt tell me squat about my mods?

i mean the most they can do is NOT cover your mods? you get me? like if they replace your car. they wont add a supercharger and such you get me? or pay for new rims and such. unless you tell them and they cover it therefore your insurance might go up.

Yeah I agree. The only catch may be in the fine print and I would say if you are asked outright and say "no" then you run some risks.

I am with statefarm and they have no problem with my mods. I actually asked them about theft of my car and insurance paying for the mods. Every mod I have listed on my sig they cover as long as i keep my reciept.

Now in saying that i havent had a speeding ticket since i was 18 which was 11 years ago so maybe that helps.

Uhm...I can't remember an insurance company ever inspecting my car, and I don't typically report modifications to them...
