Thumbs up MGW Short throw shifter and service

Today I made a trip to MGW, bought a short throw shifter and George did the installation.

First off the people including, George, the two ladies in the office, and even the machinists that walked by and said hi. What a nice group at MGW.

George had my car done in no time and me back on the road. The shifter is awesome. I was a bit apprehensive, but the shifting action is great and I'm not noticing any additional noise. I highly recommend MGW.

Other company information which I added because it was impressive to me. http://www.mgwltd.com/brochure1.shtml

I agree. I bought the retro shifter from them and George and Julie were great. Fit and finish is perfect.

I took my car on the Tail of the Dragon a couple of days after the MGW install and really appreciate this shifter now more than ever.

Lee, that is a very nice shifter. I'm glad to see that is the full shifter. Enjoy my friend.

For those that don't know the action of the MGW Here is a quick rundown.

The centering is very stout. To get from neutral to first, requires a little pressure on the right side of the shifter and slight click forward. It's so short I wasn't sure it was really in gear at first. The centering is so good that to go from 2nd to 3rd, you literally open palmed just push the shifter forward. None of that grabbing a hold of the knob, pushing forward, moving to the right and pushing forward, like on the stock shifter.

There is also no free play anywhere. You know how the stock knob moves around when cruising in say 6th gear? Almost non existent now. When in gear or neutral you aren't going to shake the shaft around like people do with the stocker.

George pointed out that this shifter is a performance mod and there may be some additional noise. If there is more sound transfer, I'm not hearing it but I'm running their gripper knob. The gripper is made by MGW and the least likely to have nvh.

I've put somewhere close to 1800 miles on the MGW over the past week and am completely satisified.
