Det 5th Gen Business Meeting

All Detroit 5th Gen Members - we need to hold a Business Meeting.
The purpose is to organize our group. We need to establish how
new members can join, appoint someone to keep that info, decide
on dues and when it will be collected......and other such stuff.

The date will be Friday June 24th, but the question is where? We
need somewhere that we can all sit down and discuss these matters.
I have offered the dealership, but if someone can come up with
something more central, it could work out better for everyone.

Any ideas?

Would the metro parks have shelter incase of rain?

Spoke to Alfie, he's thinking about where we could
meet on the eastside. Actually if we keep it up Woodward
or even Telegraph, it kind of keeps things centralized
and easier for everyone to come to.

HDRDTD may be on to something here.

I just sent the following PM to Becky that I'll paste here;

"With regard to finding a suitable location for a business type meeting, the weather is now warm enough to consider an outdoor location.

Say, a public park with a canopy or pavilion is case of rain? There are many such places up and down Telegraph or Woodward."

I like the Belle Isle idea There is no location more central for all of us (Downriver, Pontiac, and Mt Clemens) than Downtown Detroit The possible locations that are relatively safe and clean near East Jefferson are many....we ain't talking about something next to a crack house. Just make sure it has sufficient parking close by.

Give it a couple of days, I or someone else, familiar with the East/Jeff parks should be able to come up with a suggestion.

Your thoughts?

Alfie (Mariano)

I'm down w/Belle Isle..... I'm actually working right there @ Jefferson & Van Dyke @ the UAW International Headquarters. I've been over there in the last week and it seemed O.K to me. There is sufficient shelter area for a meeting. I think we could make it work for us. I'll go over there again sometime this week and find a sweet spot for us if you guys give me the green light!!

There is a nice spot on the south side of the island right on the water facing Canada. I'll actually stop next time i'm there and see if you need a reservation for that particular shelter. Probably will be the end of this week or beginning of next week. Stay tuned!!

We have a wedding to be at DownRiver at 9am Saturday!!! Who has a wedding at 9am on a Saturday??

We will both try to make it, but I bet my wife will choose her beauty sleep over the meeting. I warned her this would likely happen [a meeting on the 24th] after the mi[l]f body show.

I like the Idea of Belle Isle, but I don't think there is still a formal reservation process for their areas.

Not trying to be a wet blanket but man thats a good drive for us after my wife gets out of work on Friday we wouldn't be able to get down there till about 8:00pm depending if we have good traffic.

I will do whatever the masses want (I'm easy :P ) but personally I liked it a lot when we met up at Rusty Bucket, if we can find other places like that to meet it just makes for a more social environment in my opinion. I know we have business to take care of and a place that has a private area so that we can talk for a bit would be a must as well as some place for parking.

Just to throw out some ideas of places with big parking lots:
Freedom Hill - Sterling Heights
Rogers Roost- Sterling Heights
Rusty Bucket (Orchard Lake Rd.) - West Bloomfield
Dave and Busters - Utica
Fishbones - Southfield
The Lodge - Keego Harbor or Sterling Heights
Fountain Walk - Novi (huge parking lot) -few restaurants and Lucky Strike is there

Math,
Your comments are valid and I understand your point. However, as you may recall at the Rusty Bucket, a crowded noisy bar on a Friday night is not a good place to meet and great, and even less conducive for a business type meeting where we need to communicate and exchange ideas. At the last meeting in Northville, we couldn't even sit together.

At least for this meeting, our criteria is; a central location for all and a quieter setting to facilitate discussion.

Alfie

If everyone would visit this thread
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141843
and enter your location , we'd be able to get a much better geographical map of where everyone is located which might help when choosing a location.
Our group is spread out so much that no matter what side of town we choose, it'll be a long drive for someone.

Yup I completely understand thats why I said we should definitely find some place that we can have some quiet time to talk about the business and I am sure you can understand driving an hour to talk for 30 mins then driving an hour home doesn't sound like a super fun time either.

Again though I am good with whatever the masses decide was just my input. If the choice is Belle Isle I will make the trip :P I was just trying to make sure we kept the fun/social aspect in perspective when making venue choices. It's one meeting there will be many more.

Yup this is a great idea, I plan on adding something like this to our site for just our members.

And again I don't want to come off like I am against the drive cause I am not at all. It is just going to be difficult or impossible for my wife and I to make it there on time on a Friday due to work.

As for location, our original intent was to rotate venues so it was fair for everyone. We did Central 1st, West 2nd, and the North 3rd got ix-nayed due to the Baker's show. So, with that being said, we still are due to go East & South. This meeting is pretty vital to the continued success of our club, so I believe that's why we tried to make it more "Central" for most members. I don't want to rub anybody the wrong way, but this should be a must attend due to the topics that need to be finalized. There are a lot of events and people are very busy personally outside of club activities this time of year, and it can be overwhelming @ times, some are going to Oshawa, and vacations etc. for others, so the end of the month seemed to work and we wanted to make up for June's meeting and kind of roll this one into next month's as well due to Camaro Superfest being the 1st weekend of July. Let's just try and make this work and keep in mind that not every member will attend every meeting, but this one is probably our most important one yet. Thanks everybody!!

Detroit 5th Gen Members,

Scott Montgomery, the General Manager of Les Stanford Chevrolet in Dearborn (and a good friend of Becky!) said he would be happy to host the club at the dealership. Not only can we use their large conference room for our meeting, Scott will also provide pizza and pop for everyone as well as service dept gift certificates as door prizes! They have a beautiful facility and large lot for all of us to park in. And from a location standpoint, if we were considering Bell Isle as a central location then Michigcan Avenue in Dearborn is not too far off the mark.

If the team is interested please let me know and I'll follow up with Scott.
