L99 suggested rev limiter and shift points

I was wondering if some tuner could offer advice. I took my car to track last week and everytime my tranny would shift from 2nd to 3rd it would hit the rev limiter. Which cause me to loose a few tenths I know. Oh by the way its an automatic with an agrressive tranny tune I presume. My buddy has HP Tuners says my shift points are 6200 rpm's and max rev limiter is 6700 rpm's. In my head I don't see how I'm hitting limiter any insight would help! Thanks!

on my other camaro ( I haven't taken my new one to the track yet)...if I left it in Sport shift (shifter all the way back, but don't hit the paddles), my car would do the same on the 2-3 shift. IMO, leave it in drive. Paddle shifting it may slow you down because of the delay on the action.

What's sad is I do leave it in drive. It must be on my tune!

From my experience, S mode full auto shifts just before redline, the difference between tap shifting and full auto is about 1/10 th of a second slower. Fells like it is due to less line pressure with button shifting vs full auto, not sure. However take off in full auto vs. tap shift, tap shift is way more aggresive.

I would drop your shift points down a bit. That should correct this issue.

agreed. Set your shift points down to 6050-6100. You'll still be dropping back into the powerband, and it should eliminate the rev limiter kiss you're seeing.

Curious if this was with stock size wheels and tires?

Stock shift points in RPMs are about 5800-6000 depending which gear is shifting. A good rule of thumb is for each MPH you add to your WOT shift, that will add 150 -200 RPMs, but on your scanner you have to look to be sure.

Like stated earlier, you can have perfect shift points at 6000 RPMs, then go to a smaller tire for the track, that could make you hit the rev limiter. If you have HP tuner, you can change your tire size in the tune and command it to automaticly change your shift points.

Just noticed y'all had more responses for me! But yes when I hit the rev limiter I had my 18" drag radials on my car! They are the 305/45/18's which I thought were close to factory tire size???

Will the VVT and DOD stuff safely rev to 6700?
Seems like a lot higher than stock.
