Stripping Polymer Wax

Prepping to apply an SLP RearBlackout Panel/Retro SS Badge.
Have always used Dawn to strip Carnauba off car before applying polymer product. Will Dawn also work in this case or better off also using isopropyl alcohol or something else? Thanks

Yes Dawn will work for synthetic waxes as well.

i would use dawn as well (blue regular bottle), maybe wash car twice with it. isopropyl alcohol is a chemical stripper as far as clearcoat is concerned, especially bad to use on newly painted surfaces. if you do use it, use a very low concentration 10% ipa to water. ipa is usually used after compounding correction to clean residue and inspect for further defects. pro detailer with experience can probably weigh in better than me in that.

Yes dawn will easily strip a carnauba wax. It's not quite as good at stripping sealants IMO, if I need to strip a sealant I generally wash with dawn then wipe with IPAistilled water, 1:1.

Or you could do what my hippie (prius driving) neighbor does and just wash your car with dawn, then use simple green as a detail spray... No wonder all his cars look like crap.
