First oil change and a long trip soon

I bought my car brand new, 3 miles on it. She now has 1600, 74% oil life remaining. I know you all recommend the first oil change at 1500 but I'm moving 800 miles next month and driving my camaro. Should I change the oil now and then change it again when I get up there? Or should I just wait and change it after the trip?

And this is probably a stupid question but I want this to be done right. Do all the chevy dealerships use Mobil 1 or do I have to request it?

I believe that the theory is that since the engine is brand new and being broken in, there's a chance that the engine may generate some aluminum shavings. This is why people normally would want to do an oil change soon (some people have found the shavings in the filter. You can google it).

I did mine @ 1000, just because I wanted Mobil 1 in the oil pan!

Angie, you have a V6, so the dealer will not put Mobil 1 in unless you request and probably pay extra.

And yes, I would change it now, and then at 5K. I've always been told that changing right before a long trip is good, because the oil doesn't get as dirty from highway miles as it does from city driving.

And the best thing to do is change it yourself, its really not difficult

You have an LT, the dealer will just use GM goodwrench oil (not synthetic). you can request Synthetic or a different brand of oil but youre gonna pay more. I went 8K miles before my first oil change, i currently have 40200, and no problems. So u should be fine driving the 800miles w/o an oil change. Why waste the money?

Just did mine at 750 but I believe in the break it in hard and change the oil early mentality. I also put in a magnetic drain plug for some added protection. It only costs $4 at Advance. I'll probably do the tranny and rear end at 1500 with full synthetic too.

And yes these cars do come with Mobil 1 from the factory. They paid to get that logo on the oil cap.
