the only cars with launch control are the manual SS models (LS3).

I thought I also heard from a member here that saw the car in person that Launch Control was available on the Auto...

Me too! I do remember someone claiming the auto also had launch control. Not that it matters to me

I think its performance mode in the stabilitrak settings. Hold the brake and give a little gas and release brake for a controlled launch. I'll see if I can dig up a post.

heres that post...linkage

what? hold the brake to keep still, push the accelerator to reach desired launch rpm, and tap the trans into first? that sounds a lot like a good regular launch.

according to the dealer training vids, the traction control/stabilitrac system had 4 modes:
TC/SC on - that's the default
TC off, SC on
TC off, SC in sport mode (for track-style driving)
TC/SC off

yes. stabilitrac helps keep the car on the road around corners and such. launch control lets you mash the gas to the floor & it holds a set rpm until you drop the clutch in 1st. it's for more consistent launches with a manual

On the HHR SS there is a trac control button that allows you choose Normal, off and Competitive Mode. So I'd assume there would be something very similar to that on the L99. Gotta be!

Thanks for the input. I thought there was a difference because my vette has stabilitrac on it and i didnt think it had a launch mode but i wasnt sure.

not much point to give a launch control mode to the auto. since you dont need it with an auto...you can brake and throttle it with it in gear and the torque converter takes care of it, the manual of course doesnt have a jelly filled donut to allow that.

I thought gassing it and holding on the break like power bracking screwed the crankshaft thru the engine block?

Yeah it does, we took apart several engines on rebuilds in shop class in high school and the crankshaft was push up into the front of the block.

That is why I thought the launch control sounded awesome if it came on the L99 also.

the torque converter breaks the link from drive line to motor, so it takes the blunt force of the action. The key to launching in the automatic is going to be maintenence, and keeping it up.

This car was auto so you had to put the car in drive, you press the stability control button twice, this enables you to choose Competitive mode, when this is on, you could do some serious drifting, donuts and when you slow down to stop at a light, Launch Control will display across the DIC, you hold the brake, or for stick, you hold the clutch, have the gas pedal to the floor and it will limit you to 4500 rpm, and basically your blasting off the second you let go of that clutch.
