L99 Drone with Stainless Works cat back

There are lots of posts with great comments about the SW Cat back systems on the LS3 but I can find none with the L99 autos. Any inputs...? I can't stand drone ...... I know Corsa has none but wondering if the SW has?

Thanks,
Majic

I can't say I've heard to many on Auto cars with Stainless Works. I have seen a few manual cars with the turbo mufflers and chambered systems and they didn't have drone. You might get some funny sounds with the AFM system on but they all sound weird with the AFM. Seems Corsa and Solo are the safest bets for drone free cars but SW should be up there.

Did you disable the active fuel management? If not then the drone will be that much worse no matter which cat- back you went with. I went with the Flowmaster american thunder series. It has almost no drone even with the AFM active. I disabled AFM and have no annoying drone.

If you "can't stand drone" I don't think SW should be your first choice in exhaust setups.

I don't know 1st hand, but I've heard their setup does have some drone (epecially when combine with headers).

With an L99 A6 you need to consider the AFM noises. You'll either need to get a tune, or go with a "no drone" exhaust or something that's not very aggressive.

And if you later add headers, you'll need to get your car tuned or the AFM noises will drive you crazy.

OK...so. I am not tuning out AFM and not putting on headers. One says SW is drone free and another says they have drone. 50/50 I guess. I know Corsa has no drone and SOLO is supposed to be. I guess I'll shop for one of those.

SW has no drone on an L99 without any tuning?
No AFM noises?

If so, I stand corrected. Maybe it was the addition of headers that the owner was describing to me.

On SW website it says their catback comes with a choice of mufflers. Do you know which muffler setup you have?

I am getting mixed messages. I like the looks of the SW and the sound on an LS3. Haven't heard it on an L99. I got bit once and am trying to avoid it again. I gues I'm going to have to bite the bullet and ante up for Corsa...just wish I could get them for less.

L99 or LS3 makes no differece when you are talking about drone. I'll go out on a limb and say you can pretty much guarantee you will get drone with SW. If you go with a tame muffler system like Magnaflow street series or Corsa you can avoid drone.

The L99 noise is not really a drone per say... you can also avoid this annoyance by choosing a quiet muffler. SW is awesome but one of the most aggressive out there, so if you're not tuning out AFM and you don't want drone... look elsewhere...

If you are concerned about price get a Magnaflow axle back... Keep your stock resonator and you will be good to go.. Catback and axle back are primarily for sound anyway and you get that with the axle back and save some $$$

You might want to wait and see. On SW website they seem to have two muffler choices. A lot of the exhaust companies are now offerring an L99 version and an LS3 version.

Even Corsa makes an L99 and LS3 exhaust. The LS3 exhaust is louder.

I have a Magnaflow Street exhaust. It has no drone, but its a very tame exhaust that needs long tubes to sound really good.

If you want more for less and NO DRONE get the Solo J-pipe axle back exhaust for your L99. Great deep sound, inexpensive, and you get to keep your AFM and power train warranty. This is a muffler delete exhaust and believe me you would not want it any louder.

I have never had a single drone complaint with any of the Stainless Works systems. AFM may make it sound strange at times though.

It's a great system, everything fit perfect and it sounds awesome!!
I placed my order with Apex and had the system a couple of days later, you can't beat their prices either.
Installed the system myself in about 2.5 hours total.
The tips fit and look very nice with the factory ground effects.
If you have the factory ground effects and are looking for a cat back, this is the system to for you!!

SOPMOD...OUT!

I already read the thread on Helmholz and the SOLO uses a similar process. Chase....loud , to a point is good. I put MRT 2 axle back on my LLT and took them off 2 days later. The drone was deafening and actually made my daughter sick. I know the L99 with AFM makes weird noises but I understand why. The 1899 -2000 RPM drone is what I can't stand. Everyone I know that has the SW loves them but they are all LS3's. I have never heard them on an L99 and I guess few have. That being sai...I took the MRT off the LLT and put on Corsa...great and no drone. On my 2002 Vette have Corsa Indy's...love'em. Was just trying to save a few hundred bucks but will probably end up with Corsa again unless I can either hear an L99 with SW or talk to someone that has them.

Congrats!!

This is probably no help since mine is a LS3, but I love my Corsa. It's not the loudest by far, but I didn't want that - just an upgrade from stock. I really like the drone-free cruising.

I had them on my LLT and on my Vette. They are the best as far as I'm concerned.
