Yo!
18 hours to assemble.
Too bad I've been sitting in the rail yard in Oshawa now for a week. (336 hrs)
What's wrong with that picture?

9 weeks and only 500 miles?! Drive that thing!! My fiancée rented me one for my birthday this past weekend, and we put 380 miles on it in 2 days!! Seriously, our weekend was set just driving the entire time! We loved it!

I was really frustrated about not being able to see the show because I live in Canada but then I got an insiders tour of the factory yesterday so I'm feeling a lot better. By the way it was AMAZING!!!

Not anymore...they did mine in only 36 days, that's 5 weeks and 1 day from order submittal to delivery.

Wow. That's amazing as to the swiftness of the process for you.

The press release mentions that it takes 18 hours to build the Camaro. I can recall assembly times which were routinely in the upper 20-hour to low 30-hour range for vehicle-builds not too long ago. 18 hours to assemble a car this magnificent is pretty stunning.

Hope you're enjoying your new car.

You would be surprised at the process of automobile assembly in 2009..... this ain't your father's foundry, stamping, and welding nightmare.

First, computers and robotic automation has taken the place of upwards of 40% of what humans used to do on assembly line just 10-15 years ago. Before people go getting their panties in a wad over that statement, it makes for a higher quality, more reliable, better built and handling car so shut up about people loosing their jobs to computers.... ahem, sorry.

Body welds are performed to perfection using state of the art welding devices, and since they are performed by robots every single weld is executed perfectly every single time on every single Camaro that rolls off the line..... in the old days humans would be doing all the welds, and most likely no two were exactly alike. Shakes, rattles, body flex, and mis-aligned pannels were a common sight on body work. Take a look at the new Camaro very closely at every angle and I challenge you to find a body pannel with irregular fitment, a gap larger than 3/8" even between doors and hood and trunk, and after the car has been driven for 100,000 miles it still will not rattle.

Most of the modern assembly line is kept quite clean...... VERY clean...... in some cases as stringent as a microprocessor chip factory. It has to be to get the proper paint adhesion and engine assembly.

The factory has to be kept very clean for the robots themselves to operate properly without breaking down.

The old days where big, biker dudes would weld, grind, lift, pound, crank, sweat and get filthy are gone. Today, people with white gloves install engines. Dashboards are assembled offsite, prewired, and installed as complete assemblies into the car by people who are, again, very clean and tidy. Stamping the body panels is done by robots and computers, paint is as well.

In fact, the stamping and welding part of body assembly is probably cleaner than your garage right now.

"After an 18-hour assembly per car..."

Really, just 18 hours to build a Camaro? Thats only a little more than two days.

I can't wait to see if they pimp the paint shop or QC, my paintjob sucks! I like the car but can't believe I spent over 30k for a 50/50 paint job.
