Thumbs down Tire shop scratches my wheels!

I went in today to finally get my tires mounted to my RS wheels and they scratched the crap outta one of them. First they almost mounted the fronts on the rear if I didn't catch it. Then the front driver side was mount wrong with the rotation going backwards. The funny part was the owner was the one that did it. when he went to use that tire mounting machine it also rotated a scratch on the rim. Now he is going to calling a pro to repair the wheel. Or replace the whole thing.

Just had my new rims installed and I was so worried of the same thing. I made sure I told them prior that these are brand new out of tghe box so please be careful and be careful with the stock ones afterwards as I need to keep these in good shape. I checked them out and all was good with them.

Good luck with getting it taken care of.

Obviously incompetent......
I would spread the word to your local Camaro peeps so that doesn't happen to them.

I bet the balance job was marginal as well.....good luck to you.

If you decide to sell your SS rims/tires, please let me know.

Actually it's a side shop here! Camarokid300 since you live here also don't go to "Tire Depot" on Hwy 20 by Wally World. But will admit they gave me a great deal. They even beat all the major tire shop out here, $598 for all 4 included mount and balance! But next time I will just buy tires from them lol! And no more gun stories from me Camarokid300 lol!

I went to Kauffman tire when I got my new back tires put on.

They did a great job, no marks or anything.

Holy FAIL. I wouldn't care if their tires were FREE. If i have to stand there and point out what wheel to mount the tire on and how the hell do you not notice your installing a directional wrong? Then go ahead and destroy a rim.

Sorry to hear. I would have lost my mind.

I was very pissed at first because they had me waiting 2 extra days for the tires to get there already. Then they didn't get there till 30 min before closing and they were rushing to get them on. I was so pissed when I seen the wheel I lost all anger by the time the owner came and looked (can't explain how I lost all anger and was so calm at this point). I must of blew a fuse internally and wasn't piss'd, I don't know SMH!

I had a friend take his CTS-V to a local Dobbs shop and they scratched all of his wheels and tried to deny it. They finally said they would "repair" them. They came back and the repair job was really bad. Moral of the story....I would try to get new wheels. Good luck!

good thread, I think I'll take pictures of each wheel before going into the tire shop. And I think I'll go to a shop that sells and installs custom wheels. Thier used to installing tires on new rims. plus there tire machines should have protective covers on anything that contacts the wheel. You might pay more at shop that sells custom wheels though

I hear way too many stories like this. When I finally need tires, I'm going to ask for the Manager of whatever shop I go to and have him do a walk around with Me to see that my wheels are flawless. And make him understand that if they scratch my wheels I will expect full replacments. If he can't accept that I'll take my business elsewhere.

I've had three members in our club get their wheels hammered when getting new tires. One buy has a Z06 and a Good Year shop left gouges in them, another buy with is 5th GEN SS had the dealer scrape the shit out of his just like the OP.

man, any reputable tire/wheel dealer should be able to properly mount what they sell.
