Question Stainless works cat-back

I'm wondering what people that have heard/have this exhaust on the SS think about it. I like what I hear from the videos I've seen of it but I've never heard it in person. How is it for drone and rasp?

which Stainless Works catback?? I have the retro chambered and love it! it isn't raspy at all it has a nice deep growl the way a muscle car should sound. As far as drone I haven't experienced any and that's after more than one long road trip and going 60 to 80 mph with cruise control on. I have a video if you want me to post it.

I'm not sure what the difference between there cat backs are.. But I'm assuming the retro chambered is the more aggressive of the two? If so thats the one I was talking about. I wouldn't mind seeing the video, in fact I'd like to see it so sure, why not go ahead and post it up.

I love the Stainless Works systems, the Retro Chambered is my personal favorite for these cars. Here are a few quotes from customers of ours.

It's a great system, everything fit perfect and it sounds awesome!!
I placed my order with Apex and had the system a couple of days later, you can't beat their prices either.
Installed the system myself in about 2.5 hours total.
The tips fit and look very nice with the factory ground effects.
If you have the factory ground effects and are looking for a cat back, this is the system to for you!!

You can't go wrong with the retro catback or turbo muffler systems. They both sound great but we're partial to the retro chambered system. They really have that classic muscle car sound. A true growl but yet it manages to stay within reason and doesn't go over the top. Hearing it in person will only put a bigger smile on your face. Hearing it in person on your car.....well that permagrin as they call it.

I am going to hi-jack this thread and give my review on my SW cat-back chambered that I got from APEX chase this weekend...

Got the package and everything was nicely wrapped and labeled perfectly... My goal on my car right now is weight reduction and handling. Having said that, I weighed all the pieces (including hangers) as well as the stock exhaust and came up with a difference of 29 pounds. (give or take a pound) IMPRESSIVE!!!! Install was easy. I was going to do it myself but I couldnt wait till Monday so I just went to the shop Saturday and had them install it.. One hour labor and its done. Gentleman comes after and said this is a really nice exhaust and was the easiest connecting system he has dealt with. Then he proceeded to ask who made it etc etc... I did find out later on that he put a clamp on where it was resting against the heatshield and caused a vibration but that was fixed later on and was no big deal.

Finally the sound, Its NICE! zero drone and its that perfect balance between loud and too loud. Personally, I like it loud so will eventually get high flow cats for the system. However, its not a DD so I can deal with how loud it can be from time to time. But as it stands now, its a perfect balance. Went on a hour plus long drive to my autocross event this weekend and if you want it quiet, just shift to 5th or 6th gear and cruise. you want it loud, shift to 4th and cruise...

Everyone, has their own opinions on sound so you really have to listen to a few systems to make your decision. But for me, the weight, the price, the design, and the added bonus of the sound was a no brainer for me and is why I purchased this sytem.

I got a few vidoes but they turned out crappy so I will try and re-do one for you tonight.

All sounds good to me. I've listened to quite a few systems and I'm between this and flowmaster AT but I'm leaning towards this one right now. If you can get a video up I'd appreciate it.

I am thinking of swapping out my Magnaflow Street Series for a retro chamber catback. Not sure how it will sound with my SW headers and no cats.

Thanks for all the videos that are being put up here. I was thinking about adding the solo high flows with the SW too but I was wondering how loud it would be. Hopefully Chase, Anthony, or TRC-SS can give me your thoughts on that. The car is my DD so I don't want it to be ridiculously loud, I want it to be loud enough to be recognizable but not so loud it would wake people up, but I want it to have that muscle car sound. Thanks everyone.

I must be one of the only people that have drone in my S-Turbo catback its not horrible but its there and annoying and if i had to do it agian i would have gone with the retro catback id like it to be a little more throaty.

Dont know how your experiancing drone, stainless works designed all there kits not to have it. People have different definitions of drone, I had severe drone in my old chrysler 300c with The fuel cut off, that is drone, but most people say the exhaust noise is the drone, not saying thats what your thinking it is, but when you buy an exhaust system to be louder, its going to be. Drone is real nasty when you have it, exhaust tone at a certain rpm is completely different. again not directed towards your dexgto just a general statement

Anthony,

When I ordered my headers I choose the option for connecting to the factory exhaust as my current catback is a 2.5 inch system. I noticed that the retro chambered is offered with options for connections to the factory point 2.5" neck or the SW headers. Should I choose the SW header option and will this connect to my OR lead pipes without any additional fabrication?

Since you never explained what drone is we'll never know then but between 1200 and 1800 rpm the exhaust is damn near unbearable as soon as you put any throttle in it. Its not music to anyones ears it just gives you a headache. It has no tone to it just blah in your ears. I wish i had never bought this overpriced piece.

No, you will need to select the option for factory connection. That option isn't about matching up to the 2.5 in components. Stainless Works offers headers and cat backs that meet up at the factory locations so you can use one without the other but they also offer headers and cat backs that utilize a different connection point that is specific to those systems. You have to use the matching headers and cat backs but they make more power. Because you already have the headers that are designed to utilize the factory connection points you have to go with a cat back that does the same. Is that clear as mud?
