Trans broke at 2099 miles.

Myself, wife and kids were coming home from a cruise night last night. I took off from a light, shifted 1-2 and got on it in second, shifted 2-3 and it grinded and wouldn't go into gear. Let itZ roll in neutral for a few seconds pushed the clutch in and the shifter was stuck in neutral. It would not go into ANY gear. Onstar sent a flat bed and now it's at the dealer. I'm a bit dissapointed that a car with 2099 miles had this happen. My only mods are a roto fab cai, axle back, and pfadt lowering springs. I'm hoping this will be taken care of quickly and correctly.

Yeah we were 10 min from dealer and 15 min from home. I had enough momentum to get it up a hill and pulled off on a side road. Onstar was very helpful throughout.

We need a TSB for these transmissions. The Tremec in these Camaro's needs a make over.

Apparently I broke the 1-2 synchros. Can someone that knows trannys explain how I shifted 1-2 just fine but going 2-3 was when it locked me into neutral. Service writer said the tech said that this can/will happen when the 1-2 synchros go. They ordered the parts this morning and are hoping to have them by tomorrow morning. So far dealer has been great to work with.

Check with the dealer and see if they can order carbon fiber synchros, much more durable...we put them in my tranny, now up to 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4....helped mine tremendously, and thats in a slightly modified Camaro...ask them if they order them can you pay the difference.... Read all the threads on grinding gears and I'll bet in 90 percent of the cases, the synchros and or shift forks are the root of the evil...

I don't know the specifics, but I changed shift forks as well as a few other items and only paid 800 for parts for the whole thing...

except you have to keep in mind how many parts are made that go into these cars (and others). theres a failure rate on everything. there's also a fall-out rate with everything. sometimes bad parts slip thru the cracks.

The dealer will only use OEM parts under warranty. If you want to upgrade the synchros I highly doubt they will give you a warranty on it.

Very possibly true, but a friendly service manager with the correct understanding may go for it... Doesn't hurt to ask...

Left the dealer went about 1/2 mile and took it back. It shifts fine throughout the gears but the shifter itself now has a ton of play in it. Neutral has more play then before and when it's in gear it feels like it's in neutral. All of the SS camaros on the lot are automatics so I have nothing to compare it to. They got the service manager involved and they're gonna keep it until it's right. This sucks......

Has your Dealership been inside one of these Trannys before?

I would talk personally to the Tech who worked on it and ask him.

You don't want to be the Guinea pig...sounds like it went back together wrong with all that slop you say it has....not good.

Good luck!

I did speak with the tech, he's not exactly sure what it is. Service manager said they'd drop it out and see if they missed something. It drove/shifted just fine, there was just way to much play in the shifter.

I had this same problem with mine! They replaced all syncros and 5th and 6th gear! Took my dealer 2 weeks to complete it! Drives better than new now!!! Took your dealer what? 2, 3 days! I think they may have rushed it!!! Or either mine was really slow!!!

Dealer just called and said they found a cracked sleeve on one of the shift forks. Parts on order and another weekend without my car. Hopefully this will be the final fix.

Just came from dealer and was told the wrong parts showed up today. Now I'm looking at the end of the week before I get it back. And that's if this is the correct fix. I spoke with a viper tech (same transmission) and he said when vipers come in with trans issues they just swap them with a new one. If these new parts are not the fix for the curren problem I want a new trans. The people at my dealership have been very nice and courteous so far but I want my car back and I want it right. The longer it sits there the more chances it has of getting door dings, scratches etc...... The paint and body on this car were perfect when it went in. I'm afraid of what I may find when it comes home.
