New GTECH Fanatic series

Does anyone here have any experience with the new gtech fanatic precision series? This time is based off 10hz GPS signal and it look very interesting. I've heard that the older GTECH's was pretty much dead on as long as you setup corectly but the new GPS feature look like it can be even better.

Any thoughts?

Yes, you are correct. The old G-Tech had to be properly set for the best results. You had to enter correct value for pitch factor
and you needed a flat and fairly smooth road. Those were the requirements for accelerometer based measurements.

We have designed the new Fanatic series G-Tech to use fast (10Hz) GPS engine for the measurements.
Therefore you don't need to enter any correction factors for the basic measurements.
You can attach G-Tech Fanatic to any vehicle and start measuring.
You don't even need a flat road, it works for boats too as long as you have a GPS signal.

Only setup necessary is for the HP and Torque measurements were G-Tech needs to know the vehicle weight.

Best regards from G-Tech engineer!

Hello markoz. I purchased the new fanatic version from jegs back in july but ended up having to return it due to the screen going blank. I notified you guys and you guys sent me an updated OS but that didn't seem to help at all. I think the fanatics had the newest OS already updated anyway. Also, the time runs seem pretty accurate but the hp/tq reading was waaaay off which I expected with most of hp measuring electronics.

The most important thing in HP measurements is the actual driving technique. Make sure you follow the procedure exactly as described. It's very different than regular acceleration run.

There was a problem on some SS units which caused their screens to go blank, and it was related to firmware. For some users we provides firmware update which resolved the problem, and for some like you we sent a replacement. You can always check for firmware updates on our forum. New updates will also bring additional functionality.

Regarding the HP/TQ measurements, I guess you already know that this kind of measurement is a bit hit and miss on any hardware. On G-Tech the most important thing for HP/TQ measurement is to provide accurate vehicle weight since this is one of the most important factors in calculation. All other data G-Tech can measure directly but for weight it has rely on what you have entered in car setup.

G-Tech can also show total HP (including aerodynamic and drive train losses) and net. HP (actual power used to accelerate vehicle). The net. HP is directly calculated from vehicle speed/acceleration and it’s weight so it should be most suitable for comparing results before and after modification even though it gives lower HP values.

If you’re aiming to reproduce exact numbers for engine power as stated by manufacturer, than you’d have to adjust aerodynamic and drive train losses. By doing that, you would include these losses in total HP calculation. It requires some adjusting and testing, but it can be done.
