OP.. This is what my parents gave me. Except image it 10 years older with rusty fenders and mushrooms growing out of the carpeting in the back seat. You'll be fine with either Camaro.

I'd say get the 1SS. Transformers will lose its appeal in a couple years. If you have the 1SS and you have a job, there will be lots of ways you can customize it to make it special and that's not even getting into the performance mods.

Try not to kill yourself though. Leave traction control on on public roads at all times.

My advice: Get a V6. You definitely don't sound mature enough to get a Camaro SS.

Just my .02

Neither are most 16 yearolds. Just talking from experience here.

I am calling troll on this one or at least a very immature OP who is undoubtedly a little on the spoiled side. Also what parent would buy their 16 year old a 400 plus hp car? Seriously this has disaster written all over it. And only you can make this decision, do you want to have all the bells and whistles or the extra power, both of which are only obviously needed in your case to impress your friends. I suggest a Prius since that is as ridiculous as this thread.

Get the SS so your friends don't pick on you. You know, that's what's really important. The image your friends have of you.

Oh and good luck competing with the IS-F. In stock form, the SS is only a fair performer. Dump about $5,000 into it and you're talking.

Stick with the six kid.

List what you need in a Camaro to satisfy you then look at each model and see which one comes closest to meeting your wants and needs. ANYONE buying one based on what impresses someone else is buying for the wrong reason. So who you buying it for, Yourself, or to impress someone else?

That being said no 16 year old should be GIVEN a 400+HP car. To me that is irresponsible parenting. When I got my license I got a hand me down 95 HP 2 speed automatic 65 Corvair Monza, and was happy to have it.

Get the ZL1 or wait for the Z/28. You'll only be 16 once and if you're lucky you'll make it to 17.

They are going to make it in the 2SS/RS trim as well. Sounds like mommy and daddy have more money than common sense so why not go for the 2SS/RS with Transformers package and give Darwin's Survival of the Fittest a testing. ...I still call troll. :troll:

You have Bumblebee in your avatar. My guess is you will love the 2LT with the Transformers package. The V6 is more than enough as some have stated. And as a previous poster wrote, how often will you be able to take advantage of the V8.

That being said, you can always mod the SS rather inexpensively to be a Transformer edition type. Plenty of badges and such are readily available. The V8 is obviously more powerful and would be great to own.

Either way you go, it will be GREAT!!! The Camaro is the sh*t in any form. Just please respect other drivers on the road and be responsible. It is amazing that your parents are willing and able to purchase a vehicle of this type (or any type for that matter) for you. Having said that, I am not sure I would do that if I had a 16 year old. But I don't know you or how mature you may be. Based on your posts, I don't think you are super mature but then again neither was I at 16 or 21 for that matter.

Not hating, just an observation. Go and test drive both and see which you like. My guess is you will be more for the Transformer Edition but it is up to you and your parents.

Good luck with your decision. No matter what vehicle you end up with, be careful. You likely have many many years to own many vehicles and meet many new friends. <== Good friends who really don't care what you drive or how much hp your vehicle has. True friends like you not what you have.

Am i the only one thinking that EITHER choice is too much car for a 16 yr old who isn't even wet behind the ears?

everyone's first car should be a beater (reliable, but still a beater) or handmedown.

Parents aren't doing their kids any favors by handing them everything.

I'm a 16 year old and just got my 1lt rs and it's perfect. People our age don't need a car with that much power. The v6 already has plenty!

My Daughter got her first car at 15. I bought her a 2004 40 year anniversay Mustang V6. She drove it carefully and took very good care of it.

When she graduated I promised her a new car. Her and her Mom went shopping and came back talking about some import. I mentioned the fact that I thought she would want a camaro. She looked at me funny and said she did not know the camaro was on the table. When it was announced that the Synergy was coming out.... that was her choice. She got one of the first if not the first in the Houston area.

Her car is listed on this C5 site as the first seen in the wild.

I have to say it, why would any parents buy their kid a brand new car for their first ride. I mean they have very little experience behind the wheel, i am sure we can all see where this is going. 16 yr old=97 civic!

Because some of us (me) have worked hard to put as much money as they could into it for it to be their first car.
