I get the theme but it doesn't look good on new cars.

Patina is the correct term for what he did. Right now, it's semi popular to do it and deem it a "finished" look among hot rodders. Just like with most everything else, some people love it, others think that if it's not real aged patina, then its no respect.

IMHO, looks odd on a 5th Gen. Just doesnt fit the car and its styling. To each his own I guess.

I have a close friend who is currently working on a 70' Camaro project which might end up with the forced patina finish on it.

Making your car look old and rusted is almost as bad as making it look like you spray painted it with black primer from Walmart IMHO.

...Just saying.

I like it. I grew up with classic cars that looked like that, almost nostalgic. Granted it's no "Friday Night Special" but there's something about it that says cool to me.

if he really wanted that look i am sure there are plenty of trailer parks with 3rd gens hanging out he could have used instead.

If you think it looks bad in pics, you should see it in person. It's gross. They had it on power tour. They ground the paint down to bare metal and left it to rust, beat the crap out of the fenders and all kinds of mean things. The engine is a beast though.

We actually broke the story on this car back in May:

Whether you love it or hate it, it got them a ton of attention...

The proper name is Rat-rod. As in poor broke ass man's hot rod. Being in the hot rod scene my whole life Rat-rodding has never been deemed as cool or a hot must have trend, just something that certain types of people go crazy about, while most think it's just a hunk of junk. There's also a difference between "rat-rodding" a 2010 Camaro compared to a 1970 Camaro, or a 1936 Ford Pickup. When you take a look at the former beauty of that wannabe Rat-rod you get a better idea why it's such a horrible thing to do to a 5th Gen. Rat-rodding is rat-rodding, no fancy names about it at all.
