Does Anyone Know What’s The Widest Rear Tires I Can Get:

Hi Team,

Does anyone know what’s the widest rear tires I can get(without making modification to the car)? One thing I loved about my Vette ZO6 were the wide rear 345/30/19 wheels!!!

My 315's (Conti's) are 11.75 in wide. That's a lot of rubber on my ass end - and I'm loving it. Got 20x11 rims on the rears, 20x9 in the front on my SS/RS.

no... not safely. 285 is the widest that will safely fit on the factory rear wheel. I am sure some dumbasses have put 295 or 305s on but its not safe at all. 315... not a freakin chance.

if you are talking about stiegers comment... he was talking about on an aftermarket wheel when the OP was asking for STOCK

315 is the biggest that will fit ON THE CAR without modding the rear end or a mini tub.

the stock 9" rear wheel will only SAFELY accept up to a 285.

Basically if you "squeeze" a larger tire on a smaller wheel you put added pressure on the bead. This could cause the tire to actaully pop off the rim under hard cornering... the worst possible time! Also it would cause the tire to cup and wear unevenly.

The same can be said for a tire that is too small for a wheel. It has to "stretch" the fit... not good.

Certain wheels can only use certian widths... period. forcing different size tires on a wheel that it wasnt meant for is just asking for disaster.

How much is it to widen the stock wheels? I had 315s on my vette and they were bad ass looking.

right. it sucks but we are stuck with 275s or new wheels.

I like the idea of widening the front wheel to 10.5, getting a 305 and putting the 275 rears on the front of the car but no idea what it costs to widen the front wheels. Probably cheaper to jsut get aftermarket wheels. Plus a 305 pirellis is big bucks! I believe its a tire produced for Ferraris. IIRC
